Hi there folks, I've just got myself a juwel vision 180 and and in the process of setting it up. Yay.

I had a tropical tank when I was in my early teens but got bored of it and sold it when I discovered girls and alcohol.

In those days I had a 60x30x30 tank with an undergravel filter, on an angle-iron stand! The technology has changed somewhat since then and its been somewhat of a learning curve this last week that's for sure....

Now I've grown up (well 33yrs old) I've been eager to get another tank, and a recent house move has enabled me to!

I'm going for a community set up, can get quite a few species in the tank quite easily so starting to look at species I can mix.

Here is the tank, I need a few more plants and am waiting for some rocks to be delivered but otherwise I'm ready to go, I think, the set up you see has been going since Saturday.......

Will I be ready to start stocking this Saturday, I don't have a water testing kit yet, any recommendations for us here in the UK would be helpful please,

All the water is dechlorinated ready, if I start introducing fish will they be ok? I don't understand cycling fully yet, I'm guessing as this is a new set up I won't have any bacteria in my ceramic pots in the filter yet? Will it be a problem?

Yes a big problem, Ask your fish shop for some filter medium, and put in your filter, and get a few fish to keep it going, you must test your water also for ammonia, nitrites and nirates so you need to that asap...........

Cheers for the advice, I will pop in there tomorrow, so do I have to do daily water testing to make sure levels are correct and not to add fish until the readings settle?

How long will a cycle take on a 180litre tank with a fluval 205 external filter? The flow is pretty good...

Hi Spongy, there is lots on here about cycling, if you get a test kit I did mine first and the reading was good, then i put in the filter medium from fish shop and just a few fish to keep the bacteria fed from their waste, click on this link
