A Pledge To Try And Get Live Chat Accessible Again

I just wanted to try and raise awareness so we can try and get the link fixed, or at least have an easy way onto chat for tff members.
recently there has been alot of talk about people wanting to get some kind of announcements forum or general chat forum, and the tff live chatroom is pretty much that, and it is sitting there waiting for people to come in!
The trouble is, i can understand some people cant get on due to the broken link at the top of the page, and i have heard some talk that it is impossible to fix since it was not compatible with the last board upgrade. But surely there must be some way to get on or get a new link???
Personally i get onto chat practically every day through mIRC, but i understand that some people cant get their head round how to download/work things like this, and some people arent keen on downloading/using such programmes. If we had a new/fixed link directly to the tff chatroom then it would make things alot busier on chat (it is no where near as busy as it used to be nowadays) and when people request places on the forum to "chat" or "announce" then we can point them directly there.

The chatroom is sitting there waiting for people who want to chat or announce things, we just need to do something about getting a working direct link

The point is that most people are in favour of having a science forum on this forum, it hasnt been tried before and there appears to be no forseeable problems with the idea.

General chat/announcements does not work on the forum, general chat has been tried before and general announcements would be in danger of turning into general chat, unless controlled by rules which could cause further problems with people being unhappy.

General chat does work in live chat, as the people on there have good relationships, and newcomers have always been welcomed. Also, any problems that do come about can be controlled by Paul_MTS, Hooligan, or the mods kicking/banning certain people.

I just want to see everyone's desires at least being considered. There are many new members who weren't around when the chat section went to pieces, it just may work better now!

a science forum could be handled there yes, but as chat regulars will know it is not up to the chat room to have certain topics for chat, its anything and everything, just friendly chat. We dont want any specific topics going on there, certainly not multiple ones as it would be too hard to handle, just like having every topic in one thread.

People who want a general chat/announcements section just want friendly chat, and thats all there is to live chat, its right there now, nothing even needs to be changed!

Thankyou, however, with all due respect, i dont really understand how you can disagree with me, especially when you never/hardly ever go into chat so perhaps wouldnt understand the general concept of it and how specific topics wouldnt fit in.

But anyway i really want to get bakc on topic as i feel the issue with the link has been overlooked enough times

I don't go into chat because of the link problem. I used to go quite a bit, it was however a backdoor for viruses on my system so I didn't appreciate that.

Basically I think the chat room is a good place to make announcements, but for the same reasons you have given for the science forum not working there I think announcements wouldn't work.
Here are a few reasons:

1. no pictures
2. replies are limited to the few that go into chat
3. you can't go back and read the things that people post.
4. hardly anyone used it, even when the link worked. Lets face it, we all come here because it is a forum.

You will probably retort with the argument that most of these concerns could be resolved with a system of chat and PM's but again I return that the same could be applied to science, especially when the limited number of people who have expressed interest is taken into consideration!

Just a thought.

That's nasty, rude and unnecessary. There are ways of getting your point across. And an obnoxious "holier-than-thou" attitude is not one of them.

I'll stick my hand up and say that:

- Chat is not for me. I've tried it, and don't use this facility on any forum (fish or non fish related) I belong to (don't ask me what I'm doing on this thread then - I'm pointing out why I'm not using it and why other people may not be using it too)
- SLC has some very valid points and most I entirely agree with. Though I disagree that discussing in-depth (aquatic related) science subjects via chat is feasible.

And let me say that I feel terrible, absolutely terrible about annoying you with stuff you aren't being forced to read. And really, this does have to do with the personal announcements forum; geo7x would like to see it occur only in the chatroom, I don't support that idea and wanted to voice my oppinion with regard to the matter, but again I'm sorry I annoyed you.
