A Pictorial Reef Build Adventure

Yesterday I managed to finish the paint job on the stand, two coats and its gleaming like a new pin.

So with painting dispensed with, I headed off to the DIY strore and bought me a sheet of 18mm Exterior Plywood for the top and bottom plinths.
I cut 2 pieces to the size I needed, checked out the bottom plinth for the legs, and set about cutting a hole in the top board to accept the pipes for the plumbing

I drilled four holes and cut out the section with the jig-saw

One hole sucessfully cut in the rear left-hand corner for the plumbing

Looking pretty respectable.

I then needed to address some sort of cushioning for the tank itself. I imagine if I'd have used polystyrene the weight of the tank would have sunk right into this medium and compressed it to nothing. I've opted for a dual layer of cork and rubber padding for this job

Just gauging how many its going to take and laying them out in a dry run

Sticking down the padding

Job Done! and a few strong lads required to place the tank on top. Volunteers needed, Apply within.

Lookin good BigC. The stand is going to be behind the normal viewing wall right?

And I'm still waiting for the turret to be hoisted up on top of that beefy steel frame

Many thanks Guys,

Yeah thats the actual wall we'll eventually be going through. The stand is actually facing the wrong way round at the moment and the reason for this is I want to do the landscape amongst other things whilst in this position. It eventually will be turned around with all measurements and calculations done and levelled to its final positioning.
Thanks for looking

Imagine if the tank leaks, you'll need Buddyboy67 and friend(s) back to lift it off the stand again for re-seaming :p

You worry too much rabbut.....
The general idea is to keep the liquid contained inside the tank, I think that would cause a lot less hassle for all parties concerned
Then there is the sump to consider which also holds a fair amount of H[sub]2[/sub]O

Well she's on her pedastile now.
Looking pretty bare I must admit, but I have high hope for this tank and a few cracking ideas for the scape and the sump.
I'm really gonna put a lot of effort into this build in regards to research.

Been in contact with a few international renowned aquariums in the quest for further insight to their exhibits.
I will now begin to clad the stand to get it ready for the electrics and sump.

PS That is the wall we will be going through. The tank is sitting in the wrong direction presently. I have it this way round as it will be easier to work on.:)

This is going to look so good BigC, I'm so excited about it and its not even my tank  Have you decided which region you are going to recreate yet?

Thanks Trod,
No, I haven't picked a region as yet I have sort of pencilled in a few fish sp. that's all so I'll possibly be looking towards their habitat.
