So I have 3 bettas that live in a medium tank all together and I can't seem to understand why the boy is afraid of the girls. Any ideas? and please don't say it's because you can't house bettas together because it's only temperary until next January. When I will get my new tank setup.

Next January!?
They probably won't last that long. Females are just as aggressive as males, so keep a very close eye on them and be prepared to separate. The girls may be bullying him already, hence his shyness.

the boy is afraid of the girls probably becuase he is feeling threatened, and the females are bullying him. i would highly advise against putting them together for a year, as one will end up dead

Next January! that's not temporary! you need to remove the male now and add more females or you WILL have dead fish

Unless you separate them you are going to end up with dead fish.
Your male is afraid because the girls are picking on him

Your females do have the potential to shred the male, depsite the fact they are females. You need to find a new home for him asap. He will not last until next january

My tank is about hmmm i would have to say about 3 gallons but i might be aexaggerating. Don't worry I made a typo saying next JANUARY i meant to say July or June, but I am still saving up the money for the new tank

3 gallons! thats barely enough for one betta! let alone 3! no offense but why did you get all those bettas for one tank when you knew that it was unsuitible? very irresponsible. ill bet you that atleast one is going to die,
good luck!

Did you get all Bettas at the same time? Did you tell the person who sold them to you what tank they will be in? A 3 gallon is not a medium sized tank, it is a very small tank. Do you think it may be possible for the store to take 2 of them back? They may give you credit towards the new tank you are planning on getting, or some supplies!

You will find that until June/July you may not have any Bettas left, but if you just keep one you may have a chance. A Betta really needs at least 5 gallons to be able to swim a little bit. It should have a filter so you don't have to worry about toxins building up in the tank. Have you heard about cycling a tank? It's not that hard and once it is done the tank will be a whole lot easier to maintain. The tank should also have a heater because it is a warm water fish.

If you want to keep many Bettas, then remember they got their common name "siamese fighting fish" for a reason. All males absolutely have to be in their separate tanks. There are sorority tanks for female Bettas, I think the ideal number is 5 or 6 females, and I believe the tank should be at least 20 - 30 gallons (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
