A Long Time Ago...

My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) had a 10g in his dorm room in college and I helped out with that. That would have been in 1997.

I got my first tank - a 20g long in June 2000, but sold it to a friend in December when we moved across the country. It had zebra danios and a couple yoyo loaches, but I don't remember what else. Oh, I think I had a few otocinclus cats....

My 2nd tank was a 35 hex and I had it from January 2001 - October when my husband was deployed after 9/11 and the tank went to a friend b/c I was moving back across the country while my husband was gone. It had tiger barbs, a gold gourami, 2 clown loaches, 2 bolivian rams and what I now think was a very small Jewel cichlid (I don't remember).

My current tanks I've had since March 2004 and plan to keep for much longer than the previous ones

I had fallen in love when I had a fish fanatic roomate in BC. He is still one of the most knowladgeable people I know when it comes to fish.
I had a betta love for about 4-5 years now.

Not sure exactly how old I was when I got my first fish. But it has been at least 35 years ago. And I have not been "fishless" except for one brief time when my first wife and I divorced and I just did not have space to put them. Lots of fish stories to tell from A Long Time Ago..... :p

I got started in fishkeeping several years ago (about 3-4) when I was about 12-13 years old. I wanted a pet, of course my parents wouldn't allow a large mammal like a dog or cat, or even a bird or lizard because they are too high-maintenance apparently. So I got a small 10 gallon tank for Christmas. I have been obsessed ever since. (That tank, as well as 2 others, have since been given away/sold when I moved from Toronto to Alameda this summer. About a year ago I decided I want to become a marine biologist, so I'm taking a marine biology course at my highschool. All this I have to thank for this wonderful hobby.

Whatever it is worth - I started this hobby because I took my little daughter to "Finding Nemo" movie...

It kind of went like:

"Can I have a fish like Nemo, Dad?"

(Daddy doing some research, about 1 month)

"No, that's a sea water fish. Too hard to keep." (Note: Daddy didn't even know clown fishes lived in salt water up to this point!)

"Daddy, Can I have another fish easier than Nemo?"

(Daddy doing more reserach, this time 3 months and about 20 LFS trips without purchasing a single fish!)

"Yes. There is a species called Platy, which is good for a beginner....."

Since then, I added a tank every few months up to this point, and I completely ran out of space in the current house, except for a little space behind my office desk. This space is now officially more valuable than my bed, giving very careful thoughts on how I can stack up the tanks, tripple deck! I actually worked on the DIY stand plan to see if it would work... ;)

I started fishkeeping last year October :D
It all started after I went to my friends house (her fatehr had a large saltwater tank and she had a freshwater tank) and after I went to a trip to Coral Bay!

Well in 1986 the my friends dad had a angel that he no longer wanted.
I got the fish in a bag, only two days later I got a tank pump everything to keep it. Even got it a CAE as a friend, The Angel died 6 days later.. That was 18 years ago.

At the beginning of april I had a 5 Gallon set up.

Since then I now have 8 tanks, biggest being 50Gallon and all sorts of fishies.
