A little lesson on tank sizes for Cichlids

All good except for:

With Livebearers its easy to put 30 of these fish in a 30gal tank and you wont have fighting issues, sure they will end up dieing from being over-crowded

Stocking rules are only general, they could do pretty well at this high density, depnds on your regimine, but yes not somthing one would advice newbies.

thanx inchworm :D :flowers:

maybe we can get this topic cleaned up alittle?

DISCUS

i can not stress this enough(sorry if i sound mean) but they can not, and i repeat CAN NOT be in a tank less then 50 gals. and should not be kept in groups less then six. i repeat they should not be kept in groups less then six. even if you are trying to breed them, do not get just 2. get a group and let them pair off, it works much much better that way. so please people. PLEASE take this advise and dont waste your money and buy expensive discus to put them in a 10 or 20 gal. it just won't work

ANGEL FISH

Angel fish grow big, real big. the same rules basicaly aply to angelfish like dicus. A 50 gal is areally good size for a group of 4 or 5. BUT they need a tank that is 18 inches or higher because of their large extended fins. They can not be kept in a 10 gal and will eat neon tetras. They also dont like fish tht can nip at their fins(i.e tiger barbs and such.

just some advise that you must take.

HTH you guys out there

do not...mix your flowerhorns :p
except for breeding purposes
Ive always wanted to know that, so FH's are like RD's are they? only one to a tank?

I have five bLOOD PARROTS in a 55 gal. They fight a little but all sleep together in a log. Thry are tame and calm. They only time they get agressive is when beingfed, when ll wan the food first. They have lived with silver dolars, ans tiger barbs. At time the BP andsilver dolors swim in a line and do not bother either ones.

Nice one guys, should be pinned. Too many people don't consider territory issues with cichlids. All well and good having a 75g tank, but just cos they'll fit doesn't mean 2 Oscars are gonna get on!!!
BTW I have seen VIP's vids, and he's right!!
I HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIES PLEASE ADD THIS VIDEO LINK

do u think a pair of bolivian rams a dwarf cockatoo dwarf cichlids could be ok in a heavly planted 30gallon tank? ( i like how your tell every one about the sizes of tanks its really good for people who r starting a new tank)
