I have a question here about Nitrate. My tank is still on the cycle, nitrite is 4.0ppm, ammonia is 0.50ppm, Nitrate is 160ppm. Is Nitrate suppose to occur at a high peak while the tank is still cycling?
Yup thats a good sign that the tank is nearly done cycling, it means you're getting the bacteria in the tank to convert the nitrite into nitrates. keep going until your ammonia and nitrite read 0 for a couple of days and then do a 70% water change, you're then clear to add your fish
WoW ... it's great to know that! So as far as i'm concern .. my tank should be in a normal cycling process as everyone else too right? Nothing to worry here? By the way, i have a 55 gallon saltwater tank with only 7lbs of cured live rock, will the NITRITE or NITRATE Kill my Live Rock? Thanks for helping here Lithril i really appreciated!
K the next bits a question for the Marine section I've only kept tropical fish up till now, I'm pretty sure that the live rock etc will use the nitrate but I could be totally wrong on that so don't quote me If that is the case though you may not have to do the water change at the end, like I said you really want to post in the marine section to find out some more, but at least you know that the cycling process is going well
are you doing a fishless cycle on a marine tank from what I've always understood....you can cycle a marine tank with JUST live rock ,but I may be wrong
Yes i'm doing a fishless cycle on a marine tank. Yes and you could just cycle it with some live rock, but my nitrate was high on the cycling process so i just want to know if it was normal to have nitrate spike really high. Hehehe .... Thanks alots.
