they all seem to produce the same product. if I go to petsmart my 5G hex is a Marineland eclipse hex 5 and costs 39.99 USD if I go to wal-Mart its a aqua-tech Hex 5 and uses Regent brand filters.

They're the identical tanks down to the last detail. even use the same filter cartridge and bio wheels.

Any insight to this?

regent aqua tech is a "wal mart" brand, made by marine land. All of the bigger stores do this, that is how they can say we will match any deal on the same item and beat it by 10 percent. When I worked at home depot years ago (lowes does this also) they make deals with manufactuers, and change the brand name or have "special" products that is only available to their store. Anyways they are one in the same, just a "wal mart" brand so they wont have to match any deals for the pet stores. The regents here doesnt have the bio wheels , but the Bio wheel replacement kits fit them.

What rollntider said.

Although, this detail bears repeating:

They're the identical tanks down to the last detail. even use the same filter cartridge and bio wheels.

The Regent/AquaTech version of the filters (that I've seen, anyway) do not have a Bio-wheel included.

And, oddly enough for my experience with PetsMart, a quick web search shows that $39.99 is a pretty good price for that Eclipse tank.

No picture needed, I believe you. :)

I just mentioned what I have seen in the stores here.
I actually haven't ever seen the hex 5 at walmart before and they haven't re-stocked it since. But it even has the little sun icon half filled in in blue saying biowheel. Perhaps Regent is making upgrades. Plus I'd imagine it makes the production lines easier. Just make them all the same and slap a different box on em. and for 29.99USD it was a better deal.

Kmart even has the power flo that is the same as regent and Marineland. None of the aqua tech's here nor the power flo's have the bio wheel. Thats cool if you found one with it, I wished they had them in wal mart with bio wheel I would buy them there. What I do now is buy the aqua techs and buy the bio wheel retro fit kits. Sometime petsolutions.com throws them on sale and I can buy actual marineland cheaper that way.
