I was in Wal-Mart looking at the fish and noticed this large albino frog (at least 4 inches long) in one of the tanks. The frog had a little Clown Loach in it's mouth!! :-( :-( At first, I though the poor fish was dead because it wasn't moving. It was so hard to watch! The Clown Loach was half way into the frog's mouth, but then suddenly it's tail wiggled and it managed to escape. :hyper: I wanted to buy that little Clown Loach so bad, but my mom didn't have enouygh money. So, that concluded my expereince in Wal-Mart today.

I've also had bad experiences in walmart and will personally not buy fish from there......I just buy water conditioner as its usually cheaper....I still dont look at the fish because i know it'll make me mad.!!

I'm not American and know very little of Walmart, but I thought they'd 'stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap'?

If this is true then, I'm surprised they've kept a frog/s and a clown loach/es together in the same tank.

Sorry, I know nothing/little about Walmart. :D

Its not an uncommon thing to see the infamous red dots above most of the fish tanks at my local walmart fish dept.
One time i baught two guppies from walmart and a young kid saw them and wanted to look at them up close, so i held them up to him and he grabbed the bag and squezed it!
No harm done though....

I know, every time I go into a lfs(wal-mart and even petco,wher the pets....DIE)
I feel like I want to buy all of the fish so that they don't end up with some Disease.

Daveo :flex:

That poor little Loachy!!!! :-( Little guy must have been sooo scared! :-(

Thats a really stupid thing to do to put a frog that big in with bottom feeders...especially curious bottom feeders like loaches... Sometimes Wal-Mart really ticks me off... :grr:

The only Wal-Mart fish I will buy are bettas. And thats mainly because I know that the next person who buys him, is just going to put him in a tiny little jar or vase with no heater or filtration. I now have three Wal-Mart rescue bettas in my house.

i was at walmart today to get a python (10 bucks cheaper then petsmart) and the guy thougt he was a fish expert and he told me about his home tank. a 10 gallon with 2 fancy goldfish and 2 common plecs. LOL

It depends on the Walmart. I've been to one where the Bettas were in the large cups... all of them with plenty of clean water and the other tanks looked nice and healthy. Of course in that particular store the person in the pet department had been there for years and obviously knew about fish. The Walmart closer to our house, on the other hand, has a horrid pet department... I can't bear to go into the store at all even.

I totally agree Lesi. My old Walmart that i went to, the lady there would immediately change the bettas water when they arrived upon shipment. She wouldn't let one person buy one until she changed their water and fed them some bloodworms. :)

:) There's one Wal-Mart in my area that really cares for their fish. The guy that works in that department has a little fish knowledge, but not as much as I have. He's really friendly and the fish are healthy.

 The other Wal-Mart, where my horrible experience occured, does NOT care for their fish. Almost all the fish have fin rot or ick, so I avoid getting fish from there. Most of the time, I see fish skeletons or a decaying body with fish eating it!

My Wal*Marts are usually decent. Today almost all the bettas were alive & HEALTHY (thats rare), and there was the sweetest little girl betta, not more than an inch long :) But then you look in the frog tank & see most of them dead & stuck to the filter. But at least the live ones looked healthy, a few weeks ago most stores in my area had dead & diseased fish in every tank. The fish guy there said they hadnt gotten any fish in for a few weeks, and he didn't know why, heh.

Yesterday I was at Walmart and getting medicine for my betta, and I saw the most disturbing thing.

I always check out the betta cups just to see if there is any new fishes, but what I saw made my stomach turn and my blood boil. There was two bettas with serious obvious diseases. One had a large protruding wound that was obviously infected. The other one had a painful-looking case of "droopsy" (not to say that there maybe painless cases). I was hurt by their condition. And I'm furious at the fact that nothing had been done.

It is just so cruel, unsanitary, and irresponsible to just leave them on the shelf waiting for someone to buy them and/or neglecting them to die in pain.

And I got two of my girls from there!!!

I've seen fish skeletons floating around in WalMart tanks alot. It makes me really mad, and then I complain to the fish person and nothing happens. A couple of days ago I walked around in WalMart complaining kind of loudly how bad there fish are until my mom shut me up. Poor fish. :/
