A good floating plant?

duckweed, almost free, grows like a weed and yes it sometimes can become a tank weed :) but its still a good floating plant ;) really small too someting like two zeros big ----> 00

you could also take a loot at riccia, it is a naturally floating plant

Riccia isn't nearly as good as a plant that actually breaks the surface, because plants absorb CO2 from the air much faster than from water. Duckweed is also nearly impossible to kill, and will grow extremely fast in a tank with no CO2, moderate lighting and no ferts other than fishfood.

Giant Duckweed is similar to duckweed, but more managable. Giant Salvinia is like duckweed, but the leaves are 1 inch across and there's 3-5 leaves to a plant.
 
I actually like water lettuce. I had used it in my pond and put it in my tank for the winter, I only put little peices in which are short, and they stayed almost flat with the water, however the can grow probably about 4inches out of the water, they do learn to stay short. Heres a pic:
