A Goldfish Labret Piercing

I'm not sure if I have an ethical problem with this or not. I don't think it's any less ethical than having your child's ears pierced. If it is done properly and doesn't interfere with the fish's normal movement I don't honestly think it's a big deal. And yet, for some strange reason, something in the back of my head tells me it's wrong.

Sorry to get off topic, but anyone who thinks declawing is a good idea must not understand the process.
They actually amputate the tips of each of the cat's toes. Amputation of fingers was often used as a torture method in various cultures around the world because it is extremely painful. The pain doesn't stop after the wounds heal, either; as many human amputees will tell you, phantom pain often persists for the rest of a person's life... it's not hard to see the same thing happening in animals.
Edit: Not to mention how traumatic it must be for the cats to suddenly wake up with the tips of their toes gone... there's no way I'd ever put an animal through something like that just to save my furniture.
There is a new lazer procedure that only removes the nail. But it's pretty pricy. One of my cats attacks guests (my mom!) and he draws blood. He even got my face once while I was sleeping. My other cat I adopted from an abusive home and she is kind of retarded and doesn't know how to retract her claws so everytime she walks she gets stuck (it's kind of funny to watch her). they both should really have the procedure done but i don't have the heart. Maybe next he attacks me :sly:

Both piercing and declawing are mutilations of living creatures. Why would anyone think this is acceptable, unless it is for a medically necessary purpose? I don't even think it's attractive.

IMHO, when we buy or adopt a pet we should care for it the best we can, and try to keep it in as natural a state as possible. Just because we are able to do something like this does not mean we should do it.

well, they tatoo our dogs and cats in their ears, the tag bears ears with little cards, the tag dolphins, i dont really see any diffrence if the fish lived a good life after..

Really? That's interesting...
I still don't agree with it, though, because claws are a very important part of a cat's life (as every cat owner knows! )

if the goldfish can swim eat and breath and be fine than there is nothing wrong with it. It is not that big of a deal in my opinion. Of course i wouldnt want anything like this going global but it isnt that bad, The fihs was fine.

Exactly what i was going to say.

oh and declawing is wrong in every possible since it can be,

cats have claws and thats the way it has to stay, if a owner cant handle that dont get a cat.

Yah declawing cats is bad. I still dont see to much of a problem with the gold fish as long as he is living a good healthy life

I wouldn't pierce my fish, but yeah, I don't really see that much wrong with it (aside from the chance of infection.)

trust me, if you lived with my cat you would want to do more then declaw him. He is loving sometimes but he is also so mean...a psycho kitty. If I have a guest over night I have to worry about the cat attacking his face while he/she sleeps. I have a scar right between my eyes from him. I didn't have him when he was young so who knows what happened to him. I wouldn't even have cats at all if it wasn't for getting them out of extremely bad environments. Though I have heard worse horror stories about nutty cats so I should be greatful that he has a good side. I took him to the vet once to have his nails trimmed and the vet wont do it again.

Human beings do all sorts of things to domesticated animals, most (if not all) of which is in OUR best interest, not the animal's. Fish piercings are certainly way down on that list.

I say that is wrong. He said he would not do it to any other creature, so I ask, why a fish? Is it that fish "don't have feeelings" or something? Jerk!

He was bored so he did it...? Why? I don't see the point!

Thats true. I never though about the chance of infection. I dont think it looks good but if u like it and the fish isnt adversely affected i think it's ok. Im not encouraging it but i dont think its as bad as a lot of people on this forum.

William’s procedures on fish appear to have been a success that caused no apparent harm to Cornelius, attempting the same act on cats, dogs, and other animals is far more likely to result in them gnawing or scratching the piercing out, and injuring themselves in the process.
