Hi - Last night I got a pregnant ghost shrimp. I would like to know if ghost shrimp protect their babies. I have a 10G tank with 4 snails, 2 swordtails the female is also going to have babies soon. 2 balloon belly mollies, 2 lemon tetras and some zebra danios. Will these fish eat the baby shrimp?:-( Is there anything special I should do to raise the babies? Thank you - Brenna :p

Hi Guys - This is my daughter's first post please help her out. Thanks - Moe

I don't think the shrimp would care about the babies, but the fish will eat the babies. If you would really want to keep them, you would have to move them. Better yet move the pregnant mother into a tank of her own. That is if you wish to keep the shrimp babies. Hope this helps! *Pats Brenna on the head*

Hi Brenna!

First of all congratulations on such a nice post - your spelling and grammar is better than most adults'!

Second of all - have a look at this article on ghost shrimp, it has a little bit of info on breeding. Hope it helps!

Brenna let us know how it turns out....I think shrimp are really really cool.

Hey Brenna :p
Shrimp babies are pretty strong......I dont think your fish will eat them. They will need a place to hide from the big shrimp tho. Even plastic plants in the tank will keep them alive. Good luck! :D  B)

I have a 2.5 gal. tank that is empty. Will it be ok to put the ghost shrimp in it before cycling the tank? I did a fishless cycle on my 10G tank. I used ammonia to cycle the tank. My mom helped me test the water every day. It took 8 days to cycle the tank. I liked using a fishless cycle even though it was a little boring.:fun:
There are also a lot of places to hide in my tank, there is a castle, 5 plastic plants and some ice crystal marbles. Do you think the babies could survive with good places to hide?

Hi Brenna,

Could you use anything from your cycled tank, like gravel, or filters, or plants, or even water, to put in your 2.5 gallon? This is called 'seeding' and will greatly speed up the cycling process.

If you have lots of hiding places you may be in with a chance of some surviving, I can't say for sure though.
