A Few Questions on My New Planted Tank

I concur with everything @Essjay has posted here. Spores, and don't bury the rhizome. Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus) or any variety of the same should be attached to wood or rock, or decor, either with black cotton thread or if the wood/rock has a crevice, it is good to carefully wedge the rhizome (part of it) in that. The fern will "root" onto the wood/rock, and often send black roots down to the substrate.

Thank you. At first I was confused where the rhizomes were but I think I found them. I plan on buying glue tommorow plus a little piece of driftwood and gluing them. Am I gluing the rhizome part to the wood or the stem right above it?

I just use an elastic band - but glue would look more invisible - and I assume straight on the rhizome, those pots can usually split into two or three plants, more if your prepared to cut through the rhizome. If your wood is knobbly enough you can sometimes get away with just wedging it in.

The rhizome looks like a thick stem, and from it the fronds (leaves, but as this is a true ferm, fronds is the correct term) will grow upward (toward the light) and the fine black hir-like roots will grow downward (basically). As the plant grows, the rhizome gets longer with new fronds and roots. So when placing it, be aware of the direction of growth, as you don't want it growing down into the substrate. The blunt thicker end will be the initial point from which the rhizome has grown, toward the slightly thinner growing tip. This is a slow growing plant.

all the java fern melts in my tank for some reason so ill get whatever comes first: pearlweed, guppygrass, or suss What lighting are you using or what is the wattage and hour many hours you turn on per day. Actually best plant for shrimplets is Java Moss. Other fast growing plants like...

Thought I'd give an update on the situation. I got some small rocks I had from a while ago that I got from someone and decided to put them to good use. I attached the fern to three of the rocks and it looks amazing. I also went and planted everything else in the tank, and got more plants (it's addicting ). Wish I could send a photo now, but I have it turned off for the night. Even though it seems to be inactive, I'm might post it on the planted nano tanks forum on here tomorrow and also ask some questions about stocking on it if anyone wants to see how the ferns look now.
