Is Angels and Neons together a definate no? What about Black Neon Tetras?

Long term it is a no. Also with black neons as I'm pretty sure they don't get any bigger.

Cardinal tetras are a possibility, just like neons but hardier, more colourful and get bigger so too big for angels :good:

Well, thomas, one is the natural prey for the other... how do you think that would play out ? Would you keep a tiger and gazelle in the same cage? Would you keep a spider and fly in the same box? Would you keep a house cat and a pet rat together?

It is the same with the angels and neons.

geo, a black neon is actually a completely different species. Black neons (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi) get to be over 2 inches big, whereas neons (Paracheirodon innesi) only grow just a hair over an inch (1.2"-ish). Cardinals (Paracheirodon axelrodi) get to around 2 inches also, so if cardinals are safe, then black neons are safe, too.

Okay, I will probably get some Black Neons.

Does anyone know any shoaling fish except danios that would be suitable with angels?

Harlequin Rasboras Might be ok and they are quite Thing and tall so I dont think they would fit in a angels mouth, where neons are more cyclindical shape :p

Ah yes that rings a bell.

Thanks for clearing that up Bignose :good:

There are several smaller tetra species that would go well with angels. Lemon tetras, Von Rio tetras, and Bleeding Heart tetras all come to mind (sorry for all common names). Not sure how well any of them will shoal, however, I've found in my tank that unless they feel threatened, none of my fish really shoal. They'll sometimes hang out in groups of 2-3, but are generally all independent of each other.

Pentazona barbs look good (kinda like tiger barbs), are really peaceful and mine shoal... they're really playful with eachother as well! I have mine living with angels... I also have neons with angels though i think it's just luck... and keeping the angels well fed! Also the neons were full grown and in there before the angels.

Black neons get quite a bit larger than regular neons, and the shop that I work at keeps them in the same tank as full sized angels with no problems at all. There are diamond tetras in there too- very pretty!

Red eye tetras and serpae tetras can be nippy, so while they are definately too big for your angels to eat, they might go after your angel's fins.
I would go with kitty, lemon, or if you have enough room congo tetras

Black neons are a possibility as they grow to 2", Neon tetras and cardinal tetras grow to 1.5" max, and are small enough for a full sized angelfish to swallow. While young, neon tetras and angelfish are fine together so long as the angelfish doesn't get too large too quick.
