Hi All,

Had my Black Widows for about a year now, and one is getting picked on - not sure if its by other Black Widows or other fish.

He got majory attacked a few months ago, lost 1 eye, all of his tail, most of his dorsal fin and damaged his right hand side.. but was still alive. So, not sure what else to do, and no money for another tank, I put him into my nursery net/tank thingy (one of those netted box things you put into the tank for fry etc).. I made it all cosy for him, some stones, a few rocks and some plants, and over the next few weeks he grew his tail & fin back, his side looked loads better.. he even grew a new eye!!

So on last nights water change, I thought I put him back with the others (who genuinely looked to have missed him) and see how he got on. Straight away he settled in, but after an hour or so was hanging around right at the top so he was doing a good-old Jaws impression, and remained there for ages.

Not good - I thought.

Went to check this morning - he was fine, much to my surprise, so left for work.

However on my return, found him in another corner, with half a tail, dorsal fin all bashed up, the other eye damaged and looking generally rather sorry for himself.

So, back into the nursery net he went, whilst I'm thinking 'Here we go again'.. but immediately perked up and looked happy again.. although still injured.

Have I institutionalized him??!!

I'm now really unsure what to do. Do I leave him there to live out his days in solitude, or effectively release him again & sign his death sentence?!

Please help, but please don't suggest getting another tank as I'm short of cash and that really isn't a viable option.

Many thanks in advance,

FF

He has been through the wars.
What fish do you keep in the tank?
What about rehoming him.

3 x Black Widow Tetras, 3 x Gold Gourami, 1 x Green Severum.

Rehoming is out of the question due to lack of funds - and no one I know keeps fish.

Could try your local lfs to see if they would take him.

Yeah, could do - I very much doubt they would though.. to scared of their fish getting diseased etc.

Really feel sorry for the poor chap.

Strange how he feels more than happy in his penthouse though!

He stressed to death if he would rather be in his penthouse, I would put him back in for now.
Its rehoming him, or the fish that are picking on him.
