Hey everyone.

I've got my eye on a 90 litre upgrade tank, and when I've been thinking about things, I dont think I'll be taking down my 48litre lol (yes yes, the bug has definitely bitten and infected).

So, I've been thinking about fish, and the more and more I think about it, the more I'm in love with the micro species. So far, my choices are:

Pygmy corys (Corydora pygmaeus)
Clown killis (Pseudepiplatys annulatus)
Galaxy rasbora/fireworks danio (Danio margaritatus)
Mosquito rasbora (Boraras brigittae)

Now all I need to figure out is stocking levels. I definitely want 6 - 8 pygmy corys. As for the rest, I'm stuck on numbers. Could anyone else help with an even stocking suggestion?

Willow

Is that for your 90L? You can have more than that! Btw, take it from someone with 7 Pygmys - get more! You have the room and mine are very shy. I've been told that if I had about 15+ then they'd feel a lot more confident and display more natural behaviour.

fifteen??? *faints* that would be SO CUTE!!! But I'm worried about bioload and then having to knock down numbers of the chillis and galaxies, as I'd need a decent amount of those to see them properly

have you actually seen how small these fish are? in a 90 litre they are likely to get lost and the bioload is going to be super small.

I would quite happily stock 20 pygmys, and 10 of each of the other without blinking.

They are fish that are ideal for nano aquariums and a 90L isnt really a nano.

I know a 90ltr isn't nano, I'm just in love with the small fish and think it would be an awesome community tank to have lots of teeny weeny fishies in a big tank :)

So, if I went for

15 pygmy cories
15 chillis
15 galaxies
6 (3 pairs) of clown killis
and 6 kuhli loaches?

Sounds good. I would leave out the kuhlis though, they get pretty big after a year or so.

ahh boo :( arent corys classed as bottom feeders though tizer?

Can anyone give me advice on the included Fluval U2 filter (included with the fluval roma 90)? I know it says for tanks up to 110litres, but I worry about it not being powerful enough (the internal filter I have in the work tank is for up to 110litres too, and it is at max out put, but still doesn't pick up the poo very well - I have to vac the sand 3 times a week).

This is one of the reasons why I prefer gravel - it doesn't look gross in between water changes.

Yeah the pygmys will be on the bottom a fair bit, but they are very small and will get along fine with some kuhlis. Neither of them are agressive or territorial.

I have the standard Fluval 2+ filter in mine, being internal they never do a fantasic job of cleaning the bottom and i know exactly what you mean.

However, with the stocking you have, the poo is going to be extremely small and will float around and get sucked in well enough. So i dont think you really have to worry.

I plan to sort out my Roma 90 at some point too, at the moment its a holding tank for 6 platies and about 30 corys :) Oddly the bottom is spotless and platies are rather messy! but thats because the corys are always snuffling around kicking the poo upwards to the filter.

The kuhlis in my old 90l (now residing with a friend) are a good 4 inches and surprisingly chunky. They're also extremely active after lights out. They spend a lot of time swimming up and down the glass, I really think that once adult they need a fair amount more room than 90l. I'm sure some might disagree with me though.

You could be right, i keep mine in a 5 foot tank and they are extremely quick i'll give them that.

aww, shame cos I like the kuhlis. But I'm not going to put fish in the wrong tank..... what about 2 different types of corys?
