Hello,

The missus gave me the nod today that i am allowed a 8ft tank in the dining room :hyper:

Dimensions are 96" x 24" x 24" (Length x Height x Width), Tank Volume: 177 UK Gallon ( 805 Litre )

What would you guys recommend i use for heating, and filtration?

im no expert but here is my twp pence worth. i would use a few inline external heaters if your running external filters, or if using a sump get 3 300w heaters submerged

Wow that is a serious tank. It depends on the stocking, but I would use something along the lines of two fx5s, a couple of large powerheads and wi three fluval E300 heaters.

Sump sounds like a really good idea, the wall that the tank will eventually be next to backs straight onto my shed, so i could house all the ugly bits in there

I know a lot of people with large tanks usually stock larger fish, but id prefer 50 neon tetras over a large single fish :look:

I reckon you would need a few hundred just to be able to see them in an 8 footer lol!

I totally agree with you im planning on getting a 6FT and im filling it with loads of cardinals. Plent of corys and about 6 angel fish :)

Wow 8ft....

I'm so married to the wrong person!!! lol

Like said above 2 large external filters, and its personal preference wether you want heaters in or outside the tank...

The sump idea... its that the same as having a marine sump?

is it a wooden floor or a concrete floor? that tank will way about 1 tonne once water is in in, if its wooden floor you will need to look into the construction of it, you will need the tank to be fairly even between the wooden beams

i know what you mean about lots of small fish over one large but surely with a tank that size it would be rude not to have something big in there!!

cant see me ever going that size but i would like a nice big pleco hiding away that when it does come out to say hello you have a big wow grin on your face.

good luck with the tank and some pictures would be great to see.

Its a concrete floor, i also plan on building my own stand/base using brick and stone but still unsure on this yet. When i was younger i had a friend who's father had a huge tank in his living room, it was L shaped running along one wall and onto the other with a stone effect stand, it fascinated me and i have always dreamed of something similar in size and design, its just a shame i am no longer in contact with this friend to go ask them for advice.

8ft!!!!! I hate you :-( Make sure you get some pic's up here for me to drool over :hyper:

I will defiantly be starting a journal on here, however its still a couple months away, there is no way i will rush this baby, i have to get everything into place and worked out first, followed by the missus's seal of approval for certain things i.e. drilling through the house wall into the shed lol.
