hi ya.

just got back from me holidays to find my swordtail hasnt given birth. its been 8 weeks since she got pregnant :/

shes really big now and the gravid spot is huge. but under her belly by where she goes to the loo she got a red like spot there. is that just the babies sat there or is it somethin else?

Helen

she could be stressed out...... is someone bothering her??? be careful not to like pop in on them too much

Or she could've already had a batch of fry(she should be having fry every 28-31 days) and they were eagerly devoured by the parents or other community fish. Also the filter can easily suck up some youngins. Just keep a good eye out for them cuz you're bound to seem some again in the near future. :)

My female guppy is almost 3 months pregnant and i don't know what to do with her.. shes not to big and she's only 7 months old I think the younger they are the longer it takes them ..... Good luck

Erin

I know I don't have swordtails just thought you'd like to know I have fish that won't have hers either.....that little red thing you see maybe a baby coming out ....take a flash light and look at the rocks and under things ... :)

NO joke!!
I know the feeling. I have a female guppy who has been in my breeding trap for AGES now (you almost have to feel sorry for her)!! Apparently, little miss "princess" is very sensitive, so if you try doing a water change a little late in the season for her, she has a fit and aborts. Man, I have a female guppy I just got a couple days ago and even after the stress of moving and a new aquarium, she still hasn't aborted even though she could give birth any day now.
It can be INCREDIBLY aggravating, I know, I guess ya just have to be patient.

I got a new guppy who got my whole tank sick and she even died but right before she had 12 babies and then died lol I know its not funny but it was like she wanted them to live or something..

I lost 5 fish left with two females and 64 fry :) :D

Erin :)

are you talking about your 4 females ????
the gravid spot in pregnant females will go from dark to lite because what you are seeing is the fry's eyes when its lite the babies are faceing the mothers head when its dark they are looking out through her sides and back end they like the light .....

Hope that helped.

:D swordtails take a lil more time than guppys and plattys and will userally drop a couple like once a day for a week or 2. it sounds like either the fry have nowhere to hide and r being eaten or the female is being 2 stressed out to deliver, heck ur water and stuff and then watch to c if any males r bothering her.
