75w Heater

Going back to your original question regarding the heater. I think the recommended level is 5w per US gall so 75l works out just under 20 US gallons so I'd recommend a 100w or higher, personally I'd use the 150w that is supplied with the tank

dose it make any diffrence if i use a 25w and a 50w heater insted of a 75w heater would it help the temp be more stable

There is no need for the 150watt, 100watt would be fine but anythink else theres just no point.

do you think they fry will get sucked into the external fillter

If the fry manged to get pate the rest of the fish without been eaten then yes more than likely, you could put floss round the intake but it does get clogged quite easily and will slow the flowrate down

Not anymore stable but just gives a backup if 1 fails thats all.

Jen, I agree, I'd just suggested the 150w as it was supplied with the tank rather than going out and buying another 100w heater. Either a 100w or 150w would be fine. I wouldn't use the 75w as it may struggle to keep the tank up to temp especially in the colder months. The wattage of the heater usually just affects the time in which it takes to get the water up to temp, for example a 200w heater would heat your tank alot faster than a 100w etc etc.

but you also have to relise if the heater is to powerfull it takes time to cool down while it's doing this the water is still been heated leading to temp fluctuations which in time will start to affect fish and there health, normally leading to problems.

agree a 100 watt heater would probably be better for winter periods but 75w would be fine for pretty much standard bristish weather :)

Its up to you, I'd recommend the 100w personally but that depends of it you want to go out and buy another heater when you have 2 supplied with the tank.

I have a hydor ETH external heater on my tank, the 300w version which is recommended for tanks with a minimum size of 200 litres and its fine on my 125 litre tank, no probs at all.
