Hello all,

So my current tank standing is
1 Red spotted severum
1 EBA
1 Synodontis catifsh
3 bosemani Rainbowfish
6 PB parrot convicts (Just picked up two this morning as two disappeared last time I posted, likely died and got cleaned up by my syno)

I was wondering, first, would it be possible to add a few more fish (nothing big, but I would not be opposed to another severum though I’m assuming that is a bad idea) And if so, should I increase the Rainbowfish or do you guys think a couple of gouramis (Blue or pearl) would work?

The tank is a 75g, and I do weekly water changes with substrate cleaning every time about 30-40%. Also, nitrate and nitrite are also 0 always which is surprising considering all the cichlids. I think it is my syno he is very good at cleaning the floor from food (I feed him is favorite shrimp pellets as well do not worry)

Ive also seen that a few people have mentioned the PB that they will grow as big as the parrot fish, but that is not true. At least from what I have read and seen, they grow about 4” max full grown just to say, not 8-10” like a parrot cichlid.

Thoughts?

Here is my water currently, about to do my weekly water change so these are parameters after a week (all 0)

I’m hoping you have pretty neutral water with that mix of fish - I’d go for more rainbows though as a start I’d avoid gourami with your cichlids as it doesn’t often work well long term.

What type of syno do you have? Some species do well in groups some don’t so that could be an other option.

I do not know his exact species, I believe he is a featherfin I’ve had him for 10 years but he likes to be alone, he does not like anything that looks like him (ex a red shark I tried early on in the tank). I have moderately soft water (9 DH)

Ah cool so I would call 9 pretty neutral for hardness, not going to cause any problems for your cichlids and also probably hard enough for your rainbows.

I love a Featherfin, I had one years ago when I was a teenager and still think about them - I always see them in my local stores being rehomed and think I might break a biotope at some point soon to get one... I saw a big tank on a Facebook group where someone had 9-10 of them and it was such a cool tank, loads of layered wood with a transparent background and you could just see their silhouettes waving like they do under the wood.

I think I'd say to up the rainbows with more Bosemani but you could potentially go for a second species too maybe Yellow Rainbows or Kamakas? Don't get too big like the Bosemani but avoid the Dwarf Neon as they are a bit overbred these days. Milleniums could also be an option.

I currently do have 3 bosemani and I did at one point have 4 of them and 1 blue one but turns out that the blue one was attacking the bosemani, I’m glad I caught it he killed one and damaged the fins of the other two badly, the fins have recovered now but I ended up giving the blue one away, so definitely wouldn’t wanna risk that again
