Just to show you i did have a tropical pond with malawi's last year, heres a few pics. It was close to 1600L absolutely loved it but it was kinda expensive to run.

Not to bad as the UV light in the filter did help but malawi's enjoyed grazing on all the rocks :good:
 
There was an article in last months pfk that showed a tropical tank that was kept inthe garden. It used fridge insulation to keep the heating costs low . Tank was very large and looked great. Had side glass and closed top. Might be worth trying to find out about it.
 
Why not see if you can get hold of a heater they use in hot tubs? Insulate the sides of the pond and have a lift off top for the winter months.
My hot tub runs at constant 40 degs and costs about 80p a day to run.
 
80 p a day is good. i was really set on the tropical pond but since posting this post im really thinking that i like the native idea :hyper:

Im glad somebody has actually achieved this. did you run it through winter. why did you get rid of it. its a good idea to keep malawis as they are so colourful and love all the algae growing. how did you heat it? :good:
