Does your 55 gallon have sand? They should never be on gravel long term

Watch their barbels on that substrate, and yes definitely make sure their permanent tank has sand for them.

Yes, I agree with the above.
I've heard that some say that corys damaging their barbels is a myth - but I think its definitely better to have sand, its better to be safe than sorry. Corys have adapted to feed in fine substrate like sand, and to keep their snouts and barbels free of infection and parasites. Gravel can damage their barbels and can result in infection and sometimes even loss of their barbels. However there are some species that have not evolved to feed in sand, and they are fine on gravel, however they aren't too popular and 3 striped coyrys aren't one of them.

I've always wanted corys but unfortunately I have a gravel substrate and am not planning to change it as I find it quite easy to maintain.
