Hello my fellow fish enthusiasts.

I just set up a 6 gallon Marineland Eclipse system tank (freshwater) on march 13th and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to stock it with.

It conatins a few crypts, eco complete substrate, stock lighting (I believe 8 watt flourescent) piece of mopani wood and is currently undergoing a fishless cycle. I will not add any live fauna until i know it is done so I am in no rush.

I understand 6 gallons is a wittle baby tank  so I was thinking a small colony of shrimp (prefebly red cherry) or a nice betta.

I would like to add some vibrant color to it so if you have any ideas of really small, vibrant fish that would do well with cherry shrimp or if you guys have any personal favorite combinations for such a small tank, I would emensely appreciate your input.

I have bben researching before i even set up the thing on what to put in it and I want to make sure what lives in it feels comfortable and not confined.

Thank you so much for your time and knowledge.

Best regards,

How about a betta and some shrimp?

Or a nice shoal of something like dwarf rasbora or ember tetras?
Boraras brigittae - Chili rasbora
Boraras maculatus - Dwarf spotted rasbora
Microrasbora sp.Galaxy - Galaxy rasbora

And a nice planted tank with lots of green would contrast nicely against a shoal of red fish.

Thanks for the reply!

Aye, I was thinking of a shoal but am a bit cautious as to not crowd the tank. Is it possible for a tank to not be overstocked, but be crowded?

In a way yes.
For example if you put two fish together that have overlapping territories and they become stressed then technically I'd say that's overcrowded cause you aren't allowing the fish as much room as it needs to feel comfortable.

That's why a shoal could be nice. Because naturally the feel happier in high numbers/densities. If it were me and I went for something like the chili rasbora I'd be happy to house around 10 in there.

I'm not quite sure, but I'm pretty sure you could fit some danios in there. Danios are fun to watch, very energetic

Danios are an awful suggestion! You said that yourself...

very energetic

Most of the small varieties grow to 5cm and are extremely active. I personally think it would be unfair to put them in anything short of 30" of tank.

ooooooooohhhhhhh

How about bumble bee gobies?

I could add some aquairum salt... but then i'm not sure about my plants :/

Firsly, Thanks for replying!
that sounds pretty cool. nice variation. Just wondering, what type of snail did you have in mind?

Paradise fish, or Scarlet Badis trio?

Or a group of male endlers.

Not sure about a paradise, I had one in a twenty gallon and they can get bigger than a betta and seem to be much more active than one as well.

thank you all for the suggestons, ill be researching all of these closely.
