well im gettin one in a couple of weeks and to be honest besides my 2livingstonii that are in my 65gal gettin rehomed i got a blank canvass, i have ordered a load of ocean rock and a few other bits,

so my question to you lot is what would you stock it with???
my ideas at the min include,
larger species male only tank,
mbuna community and putting all the fish inc those in my 65 in and just adding to them
or something i have been playing with the idea of for a long time a peacock community

theres so many choices so am looking for inspiration so pics of your tanks also welcome :)

TANGANYIKANS!!!!! :shout:

But then, I'm biased

i had thought about it but then again i am biased towards malawi's :p i just like their vibrant colours and personalitys i had fronts a while ago but they not really for me, i also been toying with the idea though of just keeping the africans in my 65gal an setting it up as a new world tank, but after finding out i can realistically only keep one species happily together im deffo sticking to one of the above ideas!!! and out of them its looking more and more like the mbuna community tank with the additions of my livingstonii :):):)

TANGS
Some Calvus, Lelupi, Brichardi, Leptosoma, Caudopunctatus, Nigripinnis and some Synodontis or those really cool Violet Red Brunos
OR some Frontasa and/or Tropheus Kaiser and even an eel
knock yourself out mate, with a tank that size I would run riot with it, enjoy.... :good:

something like a elipsifer ?? are there any other tang eels and how do they get along with the cichlids?

Rock on! :good:

Go into any LFS (even P@H) and you will find loads and loads of Malawis but Tanganyikans are harder to find thus much more challenging and rewarding. In my light hearted opinion Malawis = same shape, just different colours but Tanganyikans....oh so different

i do admit i deffinately have to agree....... however how do they compare in temprament and activity?? as i said before i had some fronts but they were never really my thing tbh, but im deffo loving the look of the tropheus and the calvus what are there behaviours like and is the tank always active or do they just hang around not doing much.... probably dumb questions but i havent kept them and only have malawi's to compare to when i comes to other cichlids

one thing i have noticed looking at biotope type tanks is that there is greater use of plants in tang setups, is this generally the case and if so which plants are more native to them, i have seen allot of vallis used with them?

Here's my interpretation

Malawi tank is like a Chinese high street whereas a Tanganyikan tank is like a premier football match.
