thanks guys!

I would go for sand but thats just because i think it looks better.
The stocking looks good although i think the GT might cause some problems when older. Maybe
1 oscar
1 severum
1 JD
1 acara
4 red head tapajo geophagus
1 common plec
4 hoplo catfish
and 5 silver dollars as dithers
Does that look any good?
You will need strong filtration to cope with them fish especially the common plec.

Ditto Kinzo, I wouldnt have a GT and a blue acara it would be asking for problems. Same with the oscars, unless you get 2 very small ones and let them grow up together, but then you cannot guarantee they will get on when older and if they turn out to be male & female and pair :hyper:

I LOVE big common plecs & Gibbies, gorgous when they are huge, but do make your tank maintenance requirements strict.

The idea of Oscars and the common plec with some Geos sounds good. As for dithers i don't know, never been a fan of silver dollars. Hoplos sound good.

I would stick to 1 species of each larger fish (to avoid pairs forming which can be a hassle in a community tank).

If your dead set on an oscar, then build the stocking around that.

I would suggest:
1 Oscar
1 GT
School of geo's
1 1 plec (NOT common/sailfin)
School of pictus for the bottom.

That way your tank will have the centre piece fish (oscar/GT) and the geo's fill the gaps with the pictus on the bottom. I would suggest a more unusual plec, simply because commons get huge and produce massive bioloads. I like spotted silver dollars for dithers - smaller than regular SD's but more colourful and unsual. They still eat plants though (why I traded mine in). Too many fish in my opinion detract from a tank, better to have a few types or one than a mish-mash of fish.

Sand, bogwood and plants if fish tollerate them - probably wont.

Of course the above is based on what you posted originally, theres tons of other choices out there.

I wouldn't recommend an Oscar and a GT. I had a fairly placid for a GT female, and as she got bigger she was always picking fights with my Oscar. I had to rehome her, which was very hard as I'd had her from less than an inch big.

Oscars, Severums, JD's, Nics, Geos etc can all get on well. My Nic picks fights with my JD sometimes but he has the measure of her now and ignores her. She is all mouth, that fish.

I'd rec. for long term:

1 x Oscar
2 x Severums
1 x JD or maybe BA
4 x Geos
1/2 x Plec or bichir

Not a bad mix. Although you've got at least 9-10 fish there which potentially could get to 10" or bigger. Personally, I wouldn't want to squeeze them all that tank.
I'd want to trim it down a bit to ....

1 x oscar
1 x sev
1 x plec (not common or gibbi)/birchir

plus ...
4 x geos
or 1 x JD or chocolate cichlid plus BA)

Sounds better hamfist. I like the sound of that stocking alot.
