Recently I picked up a free 35 gallon setup I found online, the tank came with a Yoyo Loach, a small Pleco, an Albino Rainbow Shark, and what I believe to be a Featherfin Catfish. I never had any intentions of setting up the 35 gallon, and only took it to use as a spare or hospital tank if necessary, so I threw the fish that came with it into my 55 gallon with 2 4" Blood Parrots, and 1 Blood Parrot x Convict for the time being.

I eventually planning on stocking the 55 with my 2 Blood Parrots, a few German Blue Rams, and maybe a small group of Apistos or Glass Catfish,

So, my question is, are any of the fish that came with the 35g (aside from the BPxConvict she's getting rehomed regardless) compatible with my future setup plans? or will I need to rehome all of them? They've only been here a few days but I'm already pretty attached

Can you get a pic of the pleco? Cant say if you'll need to re-home it or not without a proper ID.
The yo-yo loach needs to go, they get up to 6in & need groups of 6+.
Rainbow shark I believe needs a 55g so may need to re-home that too, not sure how it'd get on with the other stuff you have planned.

I'll see if I can get some decent pictures of the pleco, so far all I've been able to get are belly views lol.
Sucks about the Yo-yo, he was one of my favourites out of the group.

Just to toss it out there... thats a lot of cichlids in a 55g especially with Bloodparrots being unpredictable as they age. GBR are quite shy compared to large cichlids.

Yeah, I'd love yo-yo's as well. Stinks, but it's for the best :)

Personally I love loaches. Sad that this ones gonna go away though. What pleco is it?

If it is a gibbiceps pleco it'll have to go.

Really? I was going to have the 2 BP's, a pair of GBR, a small school of the Glass Catfish, and skip the apistos entirely.

Do you think that's too much? My blood parrots are both around 4", 2 and 3 years old, and VERY shy. I used to grow out my convict fry with them once they were 1/2" and they never once bothered them so I figured it would be okay /:

I'm quite sad about it, I really like all of the fish that came with that tank. How big of a tank would I need for Yo-yo's?

I'm really not sure about the pleco, he's still very young, only about 2" and I rarely ever see him except for on the drive home, and even than I was only able to get a belly shot, I'm going to see if I can get some pictures today though

What about the featherfin catfish? I assume he'll probably need to go as well?

Depends on your tank measurements. If its 4ft it may work but if its 3ft it won't.
Its not that your overstocking, its just that GBRS are at the bottom of the food chain in terms of cichlids so the parrots will probably beat the poo out of them.
I would go with something like this:
-2 Parrots
-1 rainbow shark
-1 featherfin cat
-1 Pleco (depending on species)
-5 glass cats

The tank is just over 4ft.
Well that's disappointing, the GBR's were main fish behind this particular setup, and I've been anticipating them for over a year.
On another forum, I was lead to believe that they would be suitable tank mates for my BP's. :(

It could work, i'm not saying that there is a 100% chance they will get destroyed. Just be prepared to rehome them if it doesn't work out.
You will learn that there are no set in stone rules for cichlids. Example: my angelfish is the boss of my tank and he's got a Firemouth and a pike cichlid for company.

BP are a hybrid making it very hard to say how they will behave as they mature. They are a mix of 3 or so different fish that have a range of sizes and temperaments. They may work fine with GBR and not bother each other or they may kill them one day.

Well I wouldnt trust the Blood parrots to be with glass cats. The glass catfish can get stressed and I dont recommend them with medium or larger sized fish

Thanks for the input everyone.

My favourite LFS often keeps Glass Cats with the young GBR's as dithers and I've noticed they're a lot more outgoing than when he has them in a tank on their own, I was going to get a school for my community and thought I'd get a school to go with my GBR's too. I figured with the dysfunctional mouths my BP's wouldn't be able to do them much harm but I never considered the stress. Glad you pointed that out, maybe I'll skip them.
