55g PICS-Aggressive tank!

Hi Mustang man , :)

Maybe while the fish are still on the small side [ and living ], you can find out the max sizes they grow to , some of those[ single specimens ] full grown are to big for your 55 g by themselves . You could decide on what you may want to keep. And trade off the rest .You might be able to keep the JD , firemouth and the con , but the others will get way to big .

You might want to consider dwarf cichlids or other dwarf sized fish . :D

And welcome to the forums

Why not get some fairly aggressive fish that can actually live together in a tank that size without tearing one-another to bits? It seems like that would be enough to satisfy your want for aggression, but then at least you wouldn't be wasting your money on what will soon be dead fish.
I don't know... it just seems like common sense to me to buy fish that might actually live long enough to be worth the price you paid for them
It's your money, I guess.

God why are people such critical jerks, you think that people have no idea what there doing and treat them like children if they do something wrong, cant you just offer some good advice in a good or nice way?

Well i may be the only one that thinks so but i like that tank, its clever and interensting especially the spiderman :kana:

Any one who keeps 4 aggressive fish fish that grow over a foot long in a tank that is just 4 feet long and a foot wide obviously doesnt have a clue what they are doing, and if they do then thats even worse as then they have knowingly placed the fish together to fight and kill each other.
The tank isnt even suitable for one pacu, oscar, red devil or red terror which all require a minimum of a 75 gallon tank EACH or in the case of the pacu a couple of hundred gallons.
You may get away with the firemouth convict and JD mix if the JD isnt overly aggressive.

Tank decor is down to personal prefference but the actual stocking of tankmates should be done responsibly and with the welfare of the fish in mind.

how about you all pull your heads in

did he state he may have another tank for them as they grow

as it is i have an oscar in with tiger barbs 2 female bettas and neons tetras the tank is only about 50 ltrs

when it gets bigger it will move to the 55 gal with the JD crimson tides blue morries and the male con once it get to big for that he has its own 200 gal to go in

instead of flaming him how about ask if he has other tanks

i can understand were the tank decor comes from as i have a 6 month old as well did you notice he said the car was plastic if he had the sence to put a plastic one in he might have the brains to move the fish later as the grow

i have a freind who has an oscar about 8 - 9 inches in with a heap of small fish no bigger than 2 iches (to many to name) the oscar has never touched or looked at them as food he grew up with them from fry !!!!! maybe this is the same case but none of you would know as you neva gave the poor bloke a chance all you have done is lost a member to this forum. Stop treating people as children and respect them you fellas made this bloke out to be no older than 12 when in fact he has 10 or more years of fish keeping.

In this forum there is a topic were a person has 2 male bettas in together and the get along but you didn't flame him

as far as i can see an apolgy is need for all that flamed him because if you flame everyone you will find a forum with one or two members

everyone deserves a chance you neva gave him one not one wake yup to yourselves

i have been a member of this forum for a long time neva post much but read everyday in everytopic this is one that pushed my wrong button.

I realize my mix isn't the smartest but that's what I like. As for my son, this tank has made him realize about survival. May sound kinda dumb but the questions he asks while we watch them feed is really cool. He thinks most things are free and everyone in the World gets along to a point. He understands that one of his pets may get hurt.
Hmmm...

Death trap? Maybe, whoever makes it, makes it.

Well, he sure sounds like he's going to get a new tank if things go wrong.

Res ipsa loquitur, i rest my case.

P.T.

i 10000% agree with CFC,

poor cichlids

the cichlid part of this forum has gone way down hill lately,i wish Vip would come back :(

PT said it for me, i rest my case also. :(

Anyone who cant see what is wrong either doesnt know anything about large Cichlids or shouldnt be keeping fish.

 it looks like it could well be one of Vips tanks, he likes the fish to fight and kill too.

atleast Vips tanks arnt overstocked, and theyre cycled, :p

Do some people not actually research the fish they buy, then come crying to the forums afterwards?.....

This tank is bad....sorry, but it is. 55G is right for 1 Oscar and a couple of bottom feeders. You sir have a stupidly overstocked list of fish. It might be ok now, but at the speed that Oscars grow some will be dead soon.

And as for the tank, well it just looks really bad... I agree on the whole bottle thing, but blimey, do you not actually care for the looks of your tank.

I suggest you re-house some of the fish, OR, get like a 250G tank, where the current inhabitants might be a bit more at rest....

atleast Vips tanks arnt overstocked, and theyre cycled
This could be heavily debated.....

btw, this is a perfectly valid post, so please dont flame me for it..

As for the tank itself, I rather like it!
A little whimsy never hurt anyone... as long as you're careful about putting things that might be harmful to the fish in there.
i had a tank once that had two he-man figures in it

i thought it was cool for about a week, then got some volcanic rock instead when i realised how cheap it looked

fish are fun without the other stuff in my opinion, I cant stand it when people dont have lots of plants in their tank, but thats just my opinion.

i also hate neon gravel too, alwyas have, looks so un-natural, i even dont like uv lamps also, it puts fish on far too much display. again my opinion.

but opinions aside, take advice if you can, people know what theyre talking about on here, no point putting your back up when someone has something constructive to say.

crap, disgusting, alful, tasteless are just some of the words that pop into my head veiwing your tank
Have you seen your avatar and sig?

What was I thinking I should have done a boring tank. I've had a tank for the last 10 years and had all of these before. Death trap? Maybe, whoever makes it, makes it.
I'll let you off that time as you obviously didn't (probably still don't) have a clue what your talking about. I think my tanks are a tad more exciting that yours by all means.

We can help you in which case you need take action on what we advise you with or you can just carry on with your prison/torture chamber of a tank.

I would advise removing the spiderman and car though, 1 of your fish once slightly bigger WILL try to eat them resulting in possible death.

What ever you do though get rid of the pacu, you couldn't physically fit a full grown pacu in your tank, atleast that would be a start.

You can still have a fairly agresive tanks with fish flaring at each other and having the odd tangle without resulting in deaths. My firemouths and blue acaras always kick off, in my bigger tank my sevrum is always kicking the oscar butt aswell.

Pompous, self-righteous and rude are a few terms that come to mind when reading the responses to this initial post.

I have learned a lot from this forum and consider it my best source for information and help, however, I'm starting to think "The Friendliest Forum On The Net" may no longer apply.

It seems in a lot of cases that unless you're in the "clique" of regulars, either you're ignored or bashed.

I just went through a particularly good learning experience with one of my tanks but I am reluctant to share it for fear of reprisals.

Please lighten up!
