55 gal

According to PetEducation.com, BMs will get to be about 10".

Where do you live? I'm surprised bare tanks cost that much.

Regarding LFS/LPSs. I prefer privately own LFS/LPSs. I often visit them to get more familiar with the owner. Even though I don't buy many things, I try to just examine there fish once in awhile and their maintenance. If I visit on a Monday and notice a diseased or dead fish, then come back either Tuesday or even by Friday and stil notice the diseased or dead fish is there, then I would try to avoid that place. Before doing so, I would notify the owner of what I saw. I like to give them another chance and come back maybe a few weeks or months later to see if I can spot the same problems.

I don't like going to major LFS/LPSs, since most of the employees are high school/college students wanting to earn some extra cash. I doubt that all of them have the experience of a serious fish keeper. I doubt that even a few have kept any fish.

You could probably look in the classifieds about people selling fish tanks.

Hi Rayne :)

Please do not even think of putting any goldfish in a 5 gallon tank. It's just too small. Your goldfish can expect to live long happy lives if they are in the right conditions.

The problem you are now having would only be worse in a small space, and he would not have the great amount of swimming space that he now enjoys.
