originally i was going to upgrade my 10 and 20 gal tanks to 29 gal each. planned stock would be:
1st 29 gal: 1 rainbow shark, 1 3-spot gourami, 9 tiger barbs(5 normal, 2 albino, and 2 moss green), and 1 bambo shrimp
2nd 29gal: 1 angel fish, 1 male/female pair of german blue rams, 3 corries, 3 ottos, 7 neons(or some other small mid-level schooling fish.

if i get 1 55 gal tank can i combine these all together and get a few more corries and ottos and make the schools a bit larger. my plan for the tank its self is to have lots of driftwood and lots of live(and only live)plants with a filter made for upto 60 gal on each end of the tank. would this work is it too many fish? btw a 55 is probly the biggest tank i can get.

I wouldn't personally as there be alot of agression between the barbs and the shark with the other fish, best keep the stocking separate- you may also have issues with the neons and the angel as angels naturally eat neons in the wild and keeping them together in captivity is very hit and miss.

Issue with tiger barbs with angels and gouranmis. The tiger barbs would tear the there fins apart. Also its not good to keep neons with angels.

if you look at my profile ull see the tanks i have set up. my barbs have never been nipy to my shark or gourami. i know about the neons.......im still deciding if i want a school of small fish and what type(ie neon, glo lite, harliquin etc.) my shark chases the tiger barbs a bit and my gourami is a bit fussy to new tank mates for a day or to but nothin major. if this really wont work what would you guys suggest?

ive been thinking about this and i thought of this stock: 15 tiger barbs(5 regular, 5 albino, and 5 moss green), 1 rainbow shark, 1 angel fish, 1 blue 3-spot gourami, 1 gold 3-spot gourami, 1 male german blue ram, 1 female german blue ram, 5 albino corries, and 5 ottos. would this work out at all?

Its a good idea to make the more compatible ones in one tank so you dont have the risk of letting them fighting. But if you want to take the risk then you can do it, I would go with the 29gallon X 2 Idea so that you can put all the small fish in one tank and the big fish in another tank.

My rainbow shark does not like my angel and my dwarf gourami, my angel is about 5" tall now and he got bullied by my 5" rainbow shark. I had to move my angel to another tank and my dwarf gourami needs to be moved now too....I suspect if my angel was full grown he would have been ok....but I would go for the 55g and just reconsider the stocking....IMHO I would rather have a 55g than two 29g....Actually I would wait and get a 75g...if possible

oh ya, and my rainbow shark HATED my three albino corries....They had to be moved immediately

I think that some rainbow sharks seem to not like bottom feeders with barbells, and mine didnt like fish with "big" fins either....

may rainbow shark doesnt mind my gourami. he does chase the tiger barbs a bit. i dont know how he would be with other bottom feeders. i think he just doesnt like fish that would look like him or have colors like him(like the tiger barbs)

i was gonna make a guppy only tank in a 10 gal but after rethinking this would this work: in the 10 gal i would have 3 male guppies 6 females, 3 albino corries, and 3 ottos. then in the 55 i would have 15 tiger barbs, 1 rainbow shark, 1 blue 3-spot gourami, 1 angel, 1 m/f pair of german blue rams, and my bambo shrimp(which i almost forgot about it. i plan to have driftwood and lots and lots of live plants so any aggressions(unless its extremely bad) wont be a prob due to lots of hiding places, easy for one fish to get away, plenty of room for territory...etc.

You've changed your plans quite a few times so I'd like to know exactly what you have right now.

You can't keep the tiger barbs with angels. Three-spot gouramies can deal with them though and they should be fine with the shark. Don't put any small tetras or rasboras with the angels. They'll get eaten.

Besides what you have right now, also list what it is you are interested in getting. If you list them clearly seperately, it's easier to point out any compatibility issues and suggest some good stocking plans. I'll add at this point that, judging by what you've already said, putting all the fish in a 55 gallon is not an option so go for the 2 tanks idea instead.

thanks. right now i have a 20 gal with a rainbow shark, 5 tiger barbs, 1 blue 3-spot gourami, and 1 bamboo shrimp. then in my 10 gal i have 1 male and 1 female german blue rams, 1 albino corry, 1 otto(the other 2 just disappered one day) 1 quarter sized angel and 4 guppies. obiously i need to get those guys in a bigger tank. im saving money for it right now and have about 150 bucks. i wan to get some more corries and ottos and make the school of tiger barbs bigger. what would you suggest would be good a good stocking plan.

again all the fish are:
5 tiger barbs(want to increase numbers)
1 rainbow shark
1 blue 3-spot gourami
1 bamboo shrimp
4 guppies(one is female so i want either get rid of her or get more females)
1 angel fish
1 male german blue ram
1 female german blue ram
1 corry(want to increase to atleast 3)
1 ottos(want to increase to atleast 3)

also i dont think i have room for more than 2 29 gal or 1 55gal plus the other tanks i have....not to mention i wont be able to get a tank bigger than 55 gal.
