54 Litre Low Light Livebearer Scape

Thanks Dev, I better not disappoint now!
Keep us updated with pics, it'll be nice to see the tank as it matures.

Thanks :)

Added some amazon frogbit the other day. It was pretty beaten up in the post, but it is getting some roots comming already :) I'm considering a tank re-shuffle...

Will try to get some this week :) Frogbit is growing OK, it was a bit battered from being handled by the Royal Mail rugby squad  Producing roots quite quickly though. The Other floating plant, the large leaved Hydrocotyle is growing fast too!

I'm having problems with fin nipping at the moment. Both of my male guppies are looking quite ragged :( I'm not sure if they're doing it to each other or if maybe the gouramis are doing it. Either way, I need to sort this out some how. I'm thinking of re-homing the gouramis into another tank, along with the red line rasbora. This should thin out the numbers in the tank, which as I've said, is a little crowded at the moment.

that would be good! it's probably the gourami - mine didn't agree with my guppies when i used to have them.

I'd put my money on the gouramis, especially if you've got a pair. Sparklers are normally placid, but they can be agressive when breeding. Have you heard the clicks, yet? They make little high-pitched croaks when courting. Nearly scared me to death, when a pair of sparklers bred in a 10g I had a while back. I thought the glass was cracking.

Well, I'm currently considering a re-shuffle of my tanks. This tank might be broken down, and all the inhabitants, hardscape and plants moved to a larger 70 litre tank (80x30x30). Hopefully this will give some more breathing room :) I will also still consider moving the gouramis to the other tank :)

I've had no croaking yet. I don't think these guys are croakers. I believe there is another dwarf gourami that looks pretty similar? When I got these guys there were also 2 slightly different gouramis which looked fairly similar, but I believe they were the croaking sort :)

There are three species, Trichopsis pumilus, vitattus, and I think sheleri. All three croak, and there have been recent taxonomic changes to their names. All three are very similar in appearence, with one being slightly more robust, but their habits are pretty similar. Believe me, sparkling gouramis croak, though it bears little resemblance to a frog. You may have all one sex. They are also difficult to sex as well. They are really quite interesting to watch breed. I was fortunate that mine bred, but the fry are very tiny and didn't survive to the free-swimming stage.

Shame to see this tank go. Made me want to try my luck with sparklers again.

It'll still look the same, only on a slightly larger tank :)

Some good news is the gouramis have started croaking! Was a bit unsure what the odd noise was at 8am on a sunday morning. They seem to do it with the lights on in the mornings which is odd, as I thought they did it at night.

I told you they would! :good: Isn't it a funny sound? At first, I thought my tank was cracking.

It's very cool :)

I re-homed my goldfish and other inhabbitants of the 80cm tank last night, so I'm going to start looking at moving everything over sometime this week. I need to get some gravel/sand etc sorted out too :)
