do you guys think $50 bucks is too much to spend on plants? i was thinking about ordering some online, but i wanted to know if this is normal. did your planted tanks make an impact on the weight of your wallets?

I don't know much about planted tanks, try posting in the section for planted aquaria. You might have more luck there.

depends what kind you get and how big your aquarium is

some plants are cheap and will create offsprings quickly, like vallis. in a month you'll have double and triple what you plant today...

I spent maybe 40 buck in a 20 gallon plant. some plants i paid 2$ and some i paid 8$!

really depends what you get

The pictures are quite small to makie out what most of them are

You'd need to find out their light requirements for starters.

that price for that many plants is a good IMO, just that maybe some won't be compatible with your auqarium lighting!

if i got a higher wattage, would low light plants be able to tolerate the same amount of light as high light plants?

I think I've spent more than $40 on plants so far counting shipping. The shipping was almost as much as the plants cost. No choice around here though-the lfs and other pet stores don't know what kind of plants they have. Petco has plants in labeled containers but none of the ones that would work in my tanks.

low light will work with high wattage, though they will probably grow very very fast.

as for lighting, high lighting is about 2.5-3 watts per gallon so it is quite expensive to set up.

Looks like a good deal. Expect to lose some of them since not all will like the conditions in your tank. Chances are that others will do well though.

$50 on plants is noraml considering ive spent $25 myself and plan to buy more when i get paid

I managed a well-planted lowlight tank for about $40 through freshwateraquariumplants.com.

I've heard plenty of good things about aquariumplants.com too.

If you have the money to spend, you will be very happy seeing a fully planted tank. If you don't have so much, buy less of the plants that are easy to propogate and let them grow in over a few months.

Good luck with your tank!

thanks guys. i ended up buying the smaller package of 12 assortments for $25. the tank will be planted, but not too overcrowded. hopefully the plants will grow in. ill try to post pictures of me setting up the tank when they get in

I'm curious, don't aquarists over there share plants at all? I've gotten most of my plants from other hobbyists for less than half the cost in the LFS, exchanged for some extra plants of my own or even gotten them for free.

I don't know about anyone else, but no one I know has fish.
