Hello Everyone,

I have had my new tank for the 5th week now. I had put fish in before it cycled but now it is beautiful and the water tests exactly perfect for two weeks now. The problem is that the fish I had or have in the tank got this white film all over them and some have died and the rest look ok I have been treating for ick for a week now. My question is how do I kn owhwen to add fish?

What do u mean white film like manny tinny salt kind of white stuff over ur dead fish or is it like cotton kind of stuff on ur fish?

White film on the body sounds like more of a fungal or bacterial problem, while ich is lots of little white dots on the body. Ich meds may not be helping any.

It's safe to add more fish after the tank has been treated, cured, and has stayed healthy for a reasonable period of time (a few weeks). If the problem was conditions in the tank that have not been fixed you may find it repeating itelf.

Please don't add any more fish until your sick ones or either cured or dead. Then wait a week or two to make sure the tank is stable and then only add fish slowly. BTW, how big is the tank and what is already in it?

I have a 30 gallon tank with two bubble guppies a plet a male betta and two zebra danios. They are now doing fine for about 4 days with no signs of bad stuff the white stuff did look like salt on the tails first then on the fins. I think they are cured of whatever they had. I am waiting a wekk or so before adding anything and jsut watching the tank which by the way is a beautiful clear tank. I really think I didn't wait for the cycling process to finish. Thanks to everyone who ansered I am getting to be a better fishkeeper thanks to you all :)

It started with little salt like grains on the tails and fins then the whole fish looked cloudy like it is hard to explain. I feel the rest of the tank is doign fine and thank you for your help adn concern. I will wait a few weeks to see more progress before adding a fish.

Thank you I am waiting for a while before adding anyone to the tank. Just watching the healthy ones now for any degradation. Thanks for the response. I love this site .
