i bought a tank today and i thinks its about 5 gallons its a hexagon tank and it has a light and air rator nop filter though do you think it is still ok if i put a beta in it and just change the water feequently? or goldfish...any ideas would help......

i'm assuming you mean no filter? if so, it should be fine for a betta [edit] with weekly water changes [/edit], but put some tall broad leaf plants in as they often like to rest near the water's surface. He won't need the aerator, but you might want to consider getting him a heater as they are tropical fish. This tank is definately a no-no for most (if not all, i'm not completely up-to-date on my "goldfish-ology") goldfish as most grow too big even for ten gallon tanks.

well if its not good for betas wut can i put in it...any ideas are welcome!! :)

Bettas=YES

Perfect for a lovely betta ;)

Goldfish=no

Goldfish need at least 15-20 gallons per goldfish and they should be living with their own species so you need a 30-40 gallon tank just to hold two goldfish.

For a betta, yes. But you should at least get a box filter - better than nothing.

Congrats on the new tank. You can run a sponge filter or internal filter from the air pump... that would be great.
