5 Gallon Tank With Too Many Fish!

Ok, I've filled up the 30g tub about 3/4 full, put some water conditioner and bio-helper, and transferred the Comets over. They look fine, and I put a fake plant and an ornament for the to hide in. I set the air pump up with an air stone to create some movement in the water.

Should I put the Black Widow Tetras in with the Comets? The lady at the LFS told me that these were cold water fish, but I wasn't sure, so I kept them in the 5g.

Is there anything I should be doing right now? I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to be doing with them all, but hopefully I'll figure something out soon. :)

Edit: I forgot to mention, in the 5g, one of the Tiger Barbs seems to be very aggressive with the other one. One is more orange, and this is the one that is being aggressive. The other one appears to have little bits taken out of it's tail and fins, so I'm getting worried that it's going to be killed. Should I be doing something about this?

black widows are not cold water fish.

if there's one thing to learn from this it's that you really can't trust the people at your lfs. sounds like they haven't got a clue so make sure you do your own research now and don't take they're word for it.

yup you need to resolve that asap, he could very well kill the other one. this is one of the reasons we've said tigers aren't suitable for that tank, they need to be kept in a big group to spread the agression out and in a 5g tank you simply haven't room for 9+ tiger barbs!

for the comets as they're now in an unfiltered bowl they need water changes every day to keep water quality ok. you should also be doing them on your 5g tank while its cycling as per the link i gave you earlier in this thread.

other than that what you need to do is make some descisions about which fish your keeping and sort out a decent sized tank for them asap, and I mean in the next couple of days, you've a half decent temporary solution but that's all it is.

Hi.

I think you need to look at the fish you have and decide which you would like to keep the most. Upon that you can work round the selected fish as to what you can add to later on when tank is cycled and settled fully. Re home the other fish, back to where you got them from and tell them why. Most stores will seel anything with anything as long as money comes in sadly.

Decide what you would like to keep, stcik with those for a while and work from there. Everyone here can guide you through.

I was at pets at home other day and saw a woman and daughter have a small 5 gallon tank ready to buy. Then tehy stood looking at waht fish to choose. I thought to myself surly they wont buy the fish now. Not wanting to jump in straight away I observed to see what staff there would say. Then a woman came up and said you cant just put fish straight in, you need to cycle your tank. They women said, oh cant i put the 2 new fish in with mine until its cycled, so the assistant asked what tank she had etc... and the reply was a fish bowl with 2 goldfish! The assistant then said no im sorry, the bowl isnt big enough and wouldnt support 2 more. She tehn refused to seel fish to them and said come back in a few weeks. The people didt seems impressed but I told them its true what the asisstant said and it takes patience. I was impressed to see good sales there. Saying that ive been in other stores and they have sold tank and fish, half the fish not compatable all in one go. Thats when ive stepped in and got some killer looks from assistans lol.

Hope it all sorts out :)
