5 gallon Fluval Spec V

A lot of plant forums recommend it, but they are usually talking about aquatic gardens with perhaps the odd fish rather than fish tanks with plants. Without fish etc breathing out CO2 and with high intensity lighting, and dosing massive amounts of fertiliser these plant people can lack CO2. With fish/shrimps/snails in the tank, it is not a good thing to add to a tank.

To kill algae it is usually recommended to spot treat the plant out of water rather than dose the whole tank.

Alright so, you were right about the excel, and I think it killed off the bb, because we woke up to cloudy water and escaping snails. So we did a test and found .25 nitrite, so now we’re doing a water change. Please help

FYI we’ve never had nitrite above 0, so this is strange. We detected nothing else

Update and photo dump: the snails are no longer trying to escape, and the water’s not murky anymore.

First babies! At last! Sorry for poor quality but they sure are small

This was a fun read! I like going through journal threads and seeing how someone's tank and hobby has evolved.

LOL, saw your reply while I was writing this! I knew you'd see I was lurking the thread since I'd been reacting and you'd get a ton of notifications, sorry about that, but your siggy did invite people to check out your journal thread! So it's your own fault. ;)

How is the tank (or tanks, plural?) doing now? The plants were doing well and the tank was looking lovely, and you have some stunning shrimp! Are you still building your shrimp business empire? :D I'm somewhat jealous, and wanting to go out and get some new shrimp myself!
