I've not done a WC on my fry tank in just under 3 weeks, but I don't trust myself with a hose around the very small fry and eggs. The tank is only 10L so I dont want to take out too much water but just enough so I can quickly vac the tank bottom. I want to create a mulm vacuum using a 4mm airline hose, but I need a straight 20cm+ 4mm length that I can't find anywhere. The only alternative I can find is a stainless steel straw. Would that work?

I was basically gonna create this but with 4mm airline and a stainless steel straw. The straw has a 5mm diameter and the airline is 4mm.

Use the line you already have all the way and fix it with a chopstick like that.

I used electric cable shrink wrap to have a nice Finnish.

I find mulm is ideal for fry to munch on
It certainly is at the moment. But the numbers are increasing rapidly. I'm on 10 fry now, was only 4 two weeks back. I have up to 26 eggs in the tank currently. Obviously there's no way they will all hatch but WC's will be needed for the next month or two as I need the fish to get to 2cm minimum before relocation. I have no space left for any bigger tanks at the moment too

I remember seeing that in an older thread, but couldn't find the name of the thread where you posted it. thanks for the idea!

So I tried it with the stainless steel straw and had decent results only sucked up 600ml and got around half of the mulm out. I heated up the 4mm airline hose in boiling water and fitted it to the straw then cut a short length to a 4mm to 8mm adaptor with a short length of 8mm hose. The only things I did suck up were a single fish egg and a few daphnia which are better results than I expected.
