4ft Tank Emergency!

Personally I would do a water change after finding a dead fish anyway. Have you looked closely for signs of whitespot? It will look like tiny salt like white specks on them, and is easier to spot on tails and fins. My tank had a nasty case of whitespot and my glass catfish were amongst the first to die unfortunately.... get looking for spots!

Thanks for replying! That was quick!

Would a 1/2 water change do?

Nope no whitespot - the others look healthy and happy! Looked at the smallest loach and he seems to be struggling to breathe now too!

I've got a pH test kit but can't find the instructions and when I did find instructions on the internet on use they were in German

Give me the link, Ich spreche Deutch.

Emma

Excellent... I'll post it now - going to have to search for it again!

I speak Afrikaans which is close to Dutch and German but the translation is going slow as I've not spoken or read it in 5 years! Arrrrrrggggghhhhh!

Guess what Emma, Google now translates pages! Whoooohoooooo! :hyper:

Our pH is fine too i think... is pH of 7 ok?

Thats fine then.
For now do the water change and monitor the fish.

Ok I would still do the water change first bless him.

Right, I'll be back.... DONT go away coz I'm stressing out here!

I'm going to do a 1/2 water change and see where that gets me!

I DID NOT WRITE THIS! Firstly I was on a train coming into london at 08:30 this morning and secondly I only get into work at 09:00 so how is this possible?? Has someone breached my password??

This site was very slow last night and I also gave up trying.

I did a 1/2 water change last night and the other fish seemed to calm down alot and were much better this morning. Our little loach got his colour back for a short while but I'm afraid was dead in the tank this morning. I've never seen a fish be protective of a dead fish before and the larger of the loaches was fending off the other fish in the tank - very weird!

Thank you so much for your help last night - I really appreciate it!

I wouldn't have thought so, but check with a Mod, they could probably tell you straight away

he was definatly dead. when i got home he was white and had not moved all day.
mow the other loach is a little off colour.
