48L Betta/community Tank Journal

Really enjoyed reading this and watching the progress. You have some fantastic fish. The Sterbai will benefit from the new substrate and would appreciate another 3 friends too. :)

The Betta is immense. Probably the nicest one i have seen.

ohhhhh I hope you love it as much as I do! If you cheers you up on your price, I did a whole 46g and went 2 inchs in the front sloped up to 3 in the back for plants. $$$

RInse! rinse! rinse!

I can't wait to put it in :) And yes, this is the first time I've ever been thankful for my small tank!

Thanks so much minnnt! I can't wait to get the sterbai on their new substrate I can tell they are going to be happy of the change :) Trust me I'd love to get more of them but I'd be overstocked right? Also even if I didn't have the rasboras in there I think my floor area may be a little cramped for them but I am wondering about how happy the rasbora are. Over the last week they have seemed a little stressed and are really sticking together more than usual - I think they are either spawning or fighting each other. I got a video of it I'll try and post it later tonight. Their sides look kind of like the colour has been rubbed off slightly on some of them and when they are exibiting this behaviour that I caught them doing they are kind of rubbing their sides together. I think they may actually be fighting instead of spawning though :/ I'm 98% confident that the colour change isn't illness related.

BUT I do want to get a bigger tank before the year is out and when that happens I will be getting plenty more corys! They do seem pretty happy currently and are very active.

I'll let Zod know you think he's a looker but to be honest his ego is majorly inflated as it is!

You should easily be able to add another 3. Are they the only bottom dwellers? What are the dimensions of the tank?

Also, how many rasboras do you have? I would be confident in stocking at least 8. They look like copper harlequins to me. Maybe espei? They stay smaller than normal harlequins iirc. That may help the situation so they have a bigger group to sort out.

Oh my goodness now don't you go getting me all excited here minnnt! :p

Yes they are the only bottom dwellers, my tank dimensions are: 39 x 33 x 43cm high (I *think* the high may include the hood as if it were just the tank it would mean I'm over 48L)
I have 6 of the rasboras they were called espei in the shop but I was since advised on here that they are hengeli.

Now you have got my hopes all up but if you now have to crush them I won't hold it against you ;)

Hmmm, maybe the floor space is a little small then. :/ adding 2 more rasboras shouldn't harm much, they won't have a very big bio load.

Interesting! You make a good point that two won't make much of a difference and if it makes them happier....

How do you feel about adding even 1 or 2 corys? I had pretty much resigned myself to the stocking limitations of my tank so I can take it :)

Another 1 Cory should be fine too i would have thought. Sterbai are quite big though so if the bigger tank is in the near future then you might be better off waiting for that before you up the numbers too much. I was advised by a friend who is no longer on the site that in my 70 litre (2ft x 1ft) i could easily house 8 Sterbai's.

Thanks for the advice :) The bigger tank isn't in the very near future it is likely to be more towards the end of this year before I upgrade. When I do I'm looking to get something in the 130L range.

The Fluval Roma 125 is an awesome tank. Very deceptive in size and what it can actually stock. Maybe 2 more Rasbora's and see how you feel about the tank. If you think it would benefit from another Sterbai then go for it. If you're as keen with water changes as you are with pictures and graphs they will be very well cared for fish. :good:

Why thank you! I may just do that :) I do 35-40% once a week - I'm a little OCD with cleanliness soooo...yeah hehe

I was looking at the Fluvial Roma it is lovely and I really like the stand that comes with it - it is at the top of my list of possible tanks!

Yeah they're super tanks. I miss mine. I have the Vicenza 180 which is basically a bow fronted Roma. Very well made tanks.

Your wc's sound great. No wonder they look so healthy. :)

Is it a corner tank? My husband, who occasionally puts his two cents in lol, thinks we could get a corner tank but I'm a little put off by the depth (seems to me like you lose viewing area) and the total curved glass because I think it may distort the view. Do you have any opinions on corner tanks?
