Fish Aficionado
Hello! I just thought I would start a thread about my tank - mostly for my own amusement! It's not planted so doesn't belong in the journals section but I would just like a place to drop a line and a picture every now and again.
My fishkeeping history is fairly typical. I had goldfish in the usual tiny tank when I was growing up but when I finished university and moved to the UK I stopped the hobby for a few years. I am a person of many obsessions and one day I decided I wanted a fish tank! That was probably two years ago now. So I bought myself this 48L Interpet Fishpod with all the usual kit included. Did a 2-week "cycle" and popped two lovely fantail goldfish in there. They were fine for about a year but one of them just slowly faded away over time, unexplained in that I wasn't able to diagnose him but we all know it was due to inappropriate tank conditions. The other one got an ulcer a couple of months later and I nearly threw in the towel when he died. But after the tank sat empty for about three months I decided to give it another go with tropical which is what brings me here!
After reading up on fishless cycling, which I did have some understanding of before but never heeded it, I got some ammonia and six weeks later, ta-da! My tank is ready to stock. In that six weeks I harassed you all on a constant basis, changing my mind on stocking and generally learning about the hobby. At first I wanted guppies and corys but then someone posted on the "Show off your Betta" thread so it caught my eye. I had never seen bettas that looked like these before, I never knew all of those colour combinations and tail types existed, I was sold
I decided to stock with 6 hengeli rasbora, three sterbai corys and a betta. Two days ago I went to my LFS and picked up the rasbora and corys (just little fellas, not quite 1.5"). They are so fantastic! Then, last night I purchased a beautiful half moon "mustard gas" male betta. He arrives on Friday - can't wait!
And now here's some pictures of my tank! You will have to humour me in some respects. I know it's small, verging on overstocked and has plain old silk plants but I'm really happy with it. I also feel that, thanks to this forum I'm now equipped the the knowledge to move forward. I'm looking forward to learning more and, as I keep mentioning to my husband (whenever he's in the right mood), getting a bigger tank in the near future - I've already got a 130L one picked out! But since we just bought our first house 4 months ago - funds are being channelled elsewhere!
This is before I got any fish:
My betta that is arriving on Friday
And because I can never do ANYTHING in moderation some videos too!
I'll be sure to post more pictures when Zod arrives ... I think it suits a betta, no?
