Hi guy's i have a 48"long x18"wide x26"tall 73uk gallon'ish tank that needs stocking.
I love the look of oscars but have no idea of how many i can have and what other fish they would go well with.
I,ve also heard you can't put plant's in a tank with oscar's is this true? and what about bog wood would this be a no no, or will it be ok?
Sorry for all the questions but if i don't find out soon the Mrs is going to fill the tank with Guppies
All the best,,,DJ

PS it will have a Ehiem 2217 filter and two 200w heaters with a black sand substrat.

hi,
we cant let her get the guppies.
i guess you could keep 4 but this is going to be iffy if they all reach anything like their potential and the size difference would mean they would probably poo more than a 1,000 guppies. going by the 1 in per gallon rule thats saying something.
the only plants you could keep with them would be anubias and some large amazon swords with rocks around their base so they cant be dug up

I would keep 2 large external filters, it's best to over filter with Oscars,
plus it's more convenient with cleaning.

Strong filtration is a "MUST"... Oscars, as i'm sure you know, grow quite large and 48" ( in my mind ) does not sound big enough to house FOUR! I would put one or two in there...

I agree.I have seen a 15'ish oscar in a 3ft tank. That looked ridiculous.Best bet wold be 2 oscars. Why don't you go with a more medium sized cichlid like a golden severum or discus...they are seriously not hard to keep.

Just one oscar lol, people recommend a 300 gallon for a breeding PAIR, not just two random oscars

don't know about tankmates and you might need a bigger filter
