Actually caring for it is quite easy! Since the access is in the back through cabinet doors, in the bathroom to boot, I just need a bucket and a siphon. Since I'm already in the bathroom, it makes it real easy. I have to confess, I don't do water changes all that often. I have a monster fluval filter that does amazing things for this tank.
I have had the whole set-up for about 5 years now and I only had to do a major water change when my pleco was under the weather. He fully recovered and is back at his full time job I do minor water changes every once in a while and I change the filter medium about every 4-5 months. I like to change the tank around like once a year. I just replaced the driftwood to the new one you see in the pictures. I had another piece the pleco finally was able to suck into two pieces (took about 2 years).
Total easy access though from behind, yet not noticable. I guess I should post some pics of that for everyone.
Anyone seeing it for the first time always peers around the corner (the one you see in the pics) to see the back, but it's not there. Instead there is a hallway that leads to the bathroom. It's very funny to see people bobbing back and forth and trying to figure it out. They then walk in the bathroom and still don't see it, as the cabinets are behind the door. I usually have to show them. Ok, I will post pics of that next! Probably WAY more than you wanted to know
