Hello There,

I've got a 40litre nano cube like the pfk ones on my desk at home currently FW !

And wondered what if anything i could keep in it SW wise ?

Maybe with a piece of liverock a couple of shrimps of some sort ?

is there any small fish i could keep in it or anything like that ?

James

Hiya, i think all you would need is a few bits of live rock, some sand (salted RO water) and you could keep snails shrimp and 1 or 2 small fish. Depending if you want coral or not you would have to get some new lighting.

Hmmm some small fish like gobies and if you want one fish a type of damsel, there is a website with all good nano tank fish i will see if i can find it

edit: found it

Yes that is very possible. What kind of lighting are you currently running? 4.5 kilos or 10 pounds would be Ideal for live rock. YOu could do a cleaner shrimp or 2 peppermint shrimp or even 4-6 sexy shrimp in a tank that size. As for fish: yellow clown gobys, a sort of shrimp goby, a small clown fish, maybe a group of 2 SMALL PJ cardinals as well. Look throught the web for nano tank sized fish. Where you planning on trying to make this into a reef?

Then you will need a new light for corals.(if you want corals) A 70w metal halide will do all corals. But a PC lighting kit will do most soft corals and a few lps corals. What are the dimensions on your tank?

If you don't want corals then it will be even easier. You can get all different colour macro algae (orange, red, greens etc) but its down to what you really want from your tank

Dimensions are 12"x12"x12" i think it has a filter with it not sure how many litres per hour and obv a filter !

Don't think i'll go down the Coral route just yet as i'm a beginner just wanna try something with fish and live rock only and maybe one or two shrimp !

What would i need to set this up ?

yeah, you can always upgrade the lighting later and add corals. You wont need the filter as the LR will do all of the filtration for you

I think you would need

-salt and hydrometer
-Live rock
-sand
-water
-water movement

(someone add i have missed things)

for the water movement i could just use the filter but without the media in it as its pretty small and powerful :)

how much LR would i need roughly ?

and what kind of sand any sand like argos play sand or something different ?

I think you would need about 4 or 5 KG of Live rock, and for sand get some marine sand from you LFS (not Live sand) will cost you about 2-3 quid for how much you need.

Cool i'll have to start doing it then :D

anywhere online i can buy a good hydrometer and some salt ?

i can get the LR and some marine sand from my lfs

Hmmm i think i might go to my lfs and ask if i can take some of their water sand and buy some LR !

would i be able to stock right away with some goby's or a clean up crew ?
