I want to upgrade my 37 gallon. I have the choice between a 40 gallon breeder and a 55 tall. They dont seem that different, other then the height. What is the better option?

I would always choose the 40 breeder. It holds more than 40 gallons while the 55 holds less than 55 gallons. I also like the footprint of the 40 breeder better. It also suits my choice of fish better, who like longer and wider more RIVER type tanks. But I guess it's all down to personal preference. I have a 55 gallon but I got it when I first started the hobby many years ago.

Depending on what fish you want to keep in there length is better than height but if there the same length I’d have the bigger tank

What are the tanks' dimensions and what fish will you keep?

Longer tank is usually better to give the fish more space to swim and avoid each other.
Taller tank will be useful if you decide to keep tall fish like Angel or Discus fish.
