4 Foot Beginner

Allright...
Definitely get a sump, this will be the area that you keep your heater, skimmer, and refugium. Make sure that you drill the main tank to plumb in the sump underneath, do not go with one of those siphon overflows to connect your sump to the main tank.
I would go ahead and get aragonite sand, then get a couple of pounds of sand from someone's established tank to throw in the tank, this will do fine for "seeding" your sandbed.
Get a good quality skimmer, I don't know if you have ASM skimmers available near you, they are great skimmers for a good price, put the gate valve mod on it and you will be a happy camper. Here is a good site to get them from http://asmskimmer.com/
What are you planning to keep, fish, corals, etc.
Definitely would not go with any type of filter that uses sponges, they may be fine for freshwater, but they can be a lot of trouble in our marine systems, if they are used in a marine tank they need to be cleaned weekly AT LEAST!
Good luck!

Just simple fish like clown fish, live rock and maybe later add in corals. GUys when it comes the marine i am a real dummy... :*) Is there any sites with pictures and show how it works and what they are???
