Just wondering how you go about obtaining them or making them.

I'm from Central Vic Australia and have found my LPS don't have much and if they do they're always smallish in size. Nothing anywhere near a 4ft tank size like mine.

I love the look of some of the ones on this site but don't know where to get them. Are there any good websites or can you have them made or what?

Another question is... how do you go about cleaning behind them? Do you get muck and filth / algae behind them?

Cheers,
Chris.

You can make artificial rock-work yourself. Search you-tube for making live rock. Primarily its for the marine guys but it can be adopted and utilised for freshies as well.
What size is the back pane of your tank

Hiya Chris,

The easiest way is to search on a well known video site

Just search for 3d background or diy background

Most are made of polystyrene (spelling ? )

Then are covered in several layers of quick-crete (google etc will throw up hydro concrete/cement etc)

Once made (of course with fish-safe silicone/adhesives etc you coat/colour the background and rinse/submerge etc etc and swap water until ph is fine to use

The only limit i can see in a diy background is your immagination and handiness at using basic tools without slicing a digit or worse lol

it's about 4x2ft back panel.

yes i wasn't too keen on getting a stone one, more a poly one. don't know how i'd go making one myself.
