Hey guys. I want to have a community tank in my 39 gallon, but I want some fish that I'll have a chance at breeding. I'm thinking of a couple of my 2nd generation livebearers, and my 10 zebra danios, and maybe a pair of kribs. What else could go in there that has the potential to breed?

Thanks in advance. :good:

If you plan on breeding the guppies. You will have to get ahold of the fry quick, as the Kribs will have a good munch on them!

Yup, I know. ;)
I'm not too worried about breeding the livebearers.... I'm done with them, pretty much. They are just and add on type thing. Some leftover from over 100 fry that I raised.

Thanks.

a pair of bolivian rams would be cool. i guess its just an opinion but i think they're nicer lookin than kribs.

Lol convicts...

No but seriously, any of the apistos would be nice, angels, bristlenose, certain barbs...

I would not recommend apisto's of any sort. The kribs will bully and eventually kill the apisto's. Kribs don't like sharing their territory. Angels might work. Dependeing on how high your tank is, and how many you get.

Sorry for the mix-up kribs, fry forever said maybe kribs, it didn't sound like a set stock yet, and I imagine apisto babies would be easier to sell or trade than kribs.

Fry, exactly what ARE you going to be doing with any of the fry you might get?

Fry forever DOES have a pair of kribs. So, I assume that they are going in there. Apisto's are a lot harder to raise. But yes, they sell for a lot more.

you could just do other live beareers like sword tails, mollys, platies. and then other fish like gold barb (semifaciolatus of course) kribs or apistos would be nice, bettas maybe? and if i were you id try to heavily plant the tank so you wont end up with 3+ more tanks wiith fry

Thanks guys. Yeah, I already have the kribs. Anything that can go with them? I have a couple platys as well, soo....?

Believe for spawning, Kribs would need warmer water than perhaps the danios appreciate. Ditto for livebearers.
Really, when spawning of cichlids is considered, in my opinion,,, might be best not to try and create community type setting. Even the small german blue rams can become intolerant of tankmates once spawning activity and or eggs and fry are realized.

You are quite right. I have an "only krib" tank as well, so if worse gets to worse, I can move them there. They are just in the 39 gal right now because the female in my krib tank was beating them up. I'm waiting for them to mature a bit.

Thanks,
