Hello,
I made my tank about 3 months ago. it went through the bacteria bloom and everything. about a month ago it started growing brown algae. i cleaned it but it came back and this time on the gravel. However the algae is basically unwipable on decorations and gravel. It grows on the glass quite frequent;y as well. I have some spare gravel so i was wondering if i should just take out some decorations and gravel and replace it with new ones to dry out the algae. any thoughts on how i can relieve the tank of this algae?!

Just take the dirty decor out and give it a good scrub and put it back in, job done :good:

for how long should i take it out? a day or even just a few hours. thanks for the reply btw :look:

Just take it out for as long as it takes to give it a clean, but don't clean it with anything other than used tank water or clean tap water.

Also you want to try and work out why you have the Algae problem, make sure your lights are not on for anymore than 7-8 hours a day, and don't over feed your fish.

Diatoms are very common in a new setup. I had them too. Yo don't even need to remove anything from the tank...I just brushed them off of everything with a toothbrush while the siphon was taking out water....

They will go away on their own in a few weeks. It's ugly, and annoying, but won't last forever. You could lower your lighting period to 4 hours a day for awhile, it did help me a little.

i feed the fish about a pinch or two once a day and the light is a t8 17 watt that I used to leave on for 10 hours at night but now leave on for about 7 hours. thanks for the advice!!! :D really helped me out

It does go after a while. Mine have all just disappeared aided by keeping the lights on for about 4 hours a day as already posted.

Good luck. It is annoying but does go!!!
