32 Gallon Overstocked With Angel, firemouth + Kissing Gourami?

Hi Glen, Ive replied on your other thread, but the longer the fins of the angel the more tempting they would be and TB's are quick so the size of the angel wont really factor into their thinking.

TB's can also reach 3.5"

I will say that your tone of writing has seemed to me to be not that friendly and quite confrontational Glen~ and thats how I interpret it when reading it (sorry if this is wrong but thats just how it comes across to me).

Seems to me you get a reply then try and counter it with how many fish you have kept and your experience but still keeping posting on the issue.

I don't know if thats how you intentionally type but its how I'm reading it, rightly or wrongly.

:S I just wanted some opinions thats all,I thought that was cool.

Well, I'm not one to say overstocked since my tank is faring along nicely at 2" per gallon, I will however say that the 1" per gallon rule is rubbish.

The thing about your stocking though is that it's simply not compatible - tiger barbs and angels don't mix, tiger barbs nip fins, angels have long fins, period.

Also, firemouths are cichlids and can get pretty aggressive/territorial, when considering stocking options, you shouldn't just view adult sizes and numbers but actually research the fish and their behavior you're interested in.

If you're so hellbent on not listening, than what's the point of asking anyway? And when somebody confronts your tone they're looking for an argument - no, they're just answering your tone with their tone that is a reflection of yours.

I know this isn't the friendliest post ever, but neither are yours.

Hi Glen,

I think that if your chem levels are okay and you do frequent changes, etc you're fine. I think we've forgotten the "art" of fishkeeping and made it too "scientific" and rigid. I think it's very situational.

Just wanted to let you know too that I've had a lot of trouble keeping serpaes with angels. I noticed you mentioned them as a possibility to add, but I'm really not happy with that combination. I'd look for a tetra/barb that is known to be less nippy if you want to add them with angels.

Good luck!

Laura

First of all, as mentioned, some less nippy shoaling fish might be a better idea, the fins on some of those fish might be a little too tempting.

Second, any time you are dealing with a mix of fish such as that it is wise to have at the very least a divider handy, another tank that can be set up on short notice is better. If it doesn't fly many shops are reluctant to take back torn & tattered fish.

Third, I would try it myself, but dividers & another tank are no problem for me. If you have a back up plan by all means go for that stocking.

Fourth, and probably most important, is that this is a family forum. It would be in everyone's best interest to post keeping that in mind. To me that means if you wouldn't say it to your mother or clergyman it doesn't belong here.

So how about we go back, edit our own posts so I don't have to, and play nice? I think everyone would rather see it that way.

You just want a argument don't you, hahahhaha ok.
I'm seriously not starting anything or venting anger from elsewhere...not sure why you feel the need to write a essay telling me off about asking a question.

No argument, no telling off, no essay, just an observation.
Just chill out a bit is all. So what if other peoples opinions differ to yours? If you don't like someone's opnion ignore it is what I'm saying instead of being confrontational. Maybe it's your way of typing - obviously I can't hear your tone of voice.
Maybe you should consider what people have said about compatibility issues? You don't have to agree with them, but maybe it would be wise to double check what they've said with your own research - just maybe they might be right and are trying to save you problems in the long term?

Whatever, today is a new day - how about a new start?

I hate when arguements break out - Maybe a few people are having bad days... Chill.

I like to look at the max size of the fish and give the fish at least 3 x its length on the smallest side of the tank. I.e. your Gourami is 7 inches. I'd like the shortest distance in my tank (in yours 17 inch? back/to/front) to be at least 21 inches to allow the fish plenty of turning and movement space. I am aware that fish can turn on their own length - but I dont like to see a fish squashed in.

I dont think your tank is overstocked in terms of the number of fish you have, or the inches of fish in the tank. I think the only problem would be possible agressive behaviour and the interactions with anything you add - i.e. fin-nipping or simply eating.

Yeh i agree, remember i have only 2 fish in there at the moment, the FM and Kissing Gourami and still have not decided what to do about the rest of the possible additions.

Think the biggest problem with a shoal-ing fish is going to be that when you buy them they are generally really small, and grow to their full size in your tank over time - I recon your current fishies would likely yum them up within minutes.

You could probably get away with a shoal of fully grown Black skirt tetras as they are fairly large and can keep away from mouths.... but when you buy them they will be too ickle to defend themselves.

Could your local shop sell you adults?

You might do better with a few cories that play together and shoal on the lower level but do so in a clever way - never getting too close to Mr firemouth or Gourami. No idea about surface dwellers... sorry.
