In another thread asking if i could keep 5 tiger Barbs or something similar (black widows, serpae tetras) with a Adult Angel,Kissing Gourami and a Firemouth I was told my tank is to small for what i already have let alone adding 5 Barbs.

What's your opinion on this? i am a experienced fishkeeper and do not agree at all although i do value other peoples take on things.

It is a 32 Gallon tank (33" x 20" x 16") the decor is black gravel and 3 20" plants (1 java fern on some bog wood, and 2 fakes) and 2 plant pots.

I'm running a large Ehiem External filter made for tanks double the size of this one.

My calculations work it out like this

Angel = 6" (rec. tank size 30 g)
Firemouth = 6" (rec. tank size 25g)
5 year old Kissing Gourami = 7" (rec. tank size 30g)

6 + 6 + 7 =19" of fish in a 32 gallon tank.

Do you class this as overstocked?

This is a serious question and not a rant,I need to know before 1. I add 5 largish shoaling fish and 2. sell my fish.

personally i think your fine :)

i honestly think if you think it looks overstocked - it is.....

my fish would all work out to be overstocked.... but they are happy and healthy and long term in the tank they are in it would be mean =- but even though im upgrading at the moment they are all fab togetther

:)

Thanks it definitely looks extremely understocked, thats why i wanted to add a shoal or medium sized barbs/tetras as dither fish just to liven it up :p

well imo you know how it looks - if then fish are happy then why not??

:)

i have a shoal of clown loaches and they look fab - the rest of my fish are 2's lol

Are the dimensions you give LxWxH or LxHxW?

Either way I am going to say you are probably on the border with a FM, angel and kissing gourami. I wouldn't add the angel fish if the tanks only 16" tall also.

i agree you get so many threads of how your overstocked and cycling for 6 months or choosing the correct plants or whatever as if you cant keep fish if you dont keep to the strict guidelines
as long as you not stupid with stocking and dont just chuck in whatever fish you want on the first day of setting up the tank then you can do things a bit differently as long as you like it and there are no absolutely major problems

The tank is 33" long 20" high and 16" backwards.

I currently have just a 7" Kissing Gourami and a 1" Firemouth in the tank and planned on adding first a Adult fully grown angel then later on 5 of either Tiger Barbs/Serpaes/Black Widows or something similar because the tank will look empty with those 3 fish on there own...it looks empty now so adding the Angel is not going to help.

If people were to sit and write all possibilities of what you could stock, if you did this this and that then they might as well write a book.
People here aim to give you sensible guidelines to try and help you out - if you feel you know better - go right ahead, no one can stop you after all.
But if opinions and advice are asked - then opinions and advice you will get - don't complain if it doesn't agree with your ideal - look instead at what you know and research like mad.
Do any of the fish you plan on have compatability issues with other fish you intend? Gallons per fish doesn't mean you have to have 55 + 75 + 30 or whatever but you do need to be sensible and consider territory sizes and the size and temperment of the adult fish.

Instead of complaining that someone has said you're over stocked (I can't comment because I don't know much about the fish you have/plan on), ask them why they believe you to be over stocked. Then do your own research to see if that person is right or not and make your own (educated, because you researched) decision.

I'm asking for a second opinion not complaining/moaning,you can see plain as day that is what i'm asking,I have kept fish all my life and know damn well it's not overstocked,i was just interested in others opinions.....*sigh*

do you class this as overstocked?
that was one of the questions you asked so if you knew the answer then why ask it???
also you have mentioned nothing in your first post that you want to add some shoaling fish

Read it again, this time with your eyes open. (the whole thing its only a few lines )

I am plainly stating that i don't agree so I'm asking for other peoples thoughts,I'm sorry i thought this was a forum mate.

ok read it wrong my apologies
anyway yes this is a forum

I think you'll find the comment you added to the post title, added to the tone in your first post of this thread, makes it seem as if you're a tad annoyed at the fact someone said you're over stocked - in your response to me you sound more than a tad annoyed that someone out there has said you could be doing things wrong - don't take out your bad mood on me, you asked questions, you got answers, you didn't like them  Happens to everyone at some point.
One thing that is common here is that people will assume (rightly or wrongly) that until they know you are an experienced fish keeper, that you are new to this hobby. If you're an as experienced fishkeeper as you say you are then you should have no problem deciding if your setup can safely accomodate your intended fish.

That was my thoughts originally but i believe i really will be overstocked then as Congos and other large tetras get to 4"+ wheras Tiger Barbs/Black Widows/Serpae Tetras are all around 2.5" on average,I can see what your saying about the tiger barbs munching on the Adult Angels fins when i get him but i'm thinking if he is a big Angel the Tiger Barbs would be more likely to avoid him?

You just want a argument don't you, hahahhaha ok.

I'm seriously not starting anything or venting anger from elsewhere...not sure why you feel the need to write a essay telling me off about asking a question.
