30g Lake Inle Aquaponic Biotope

That island is looking great! Shame about the setbacks, though  . Hopefully, the next lot of shrimp arrives ok, and your LFS can pull some strings and get what you need 🀞

I'm getting tempted to order from TWS, who currently has rosy loaches, but no Sawbwa respendens, and neither of the gouramis I want. I need to order everything all at once, though, because shipping is a killer!

Or just take a road trip down there.......... tell the family its to save on shipping.

Tiny, green neocaridinas! Scarfing up detritus just as fast as their little appendages will go.

The green shrimpies are swimming around very actively this morning, much more than usual. Does that mean something?

If it's just males swimming round, yes it does mean something. A female is ready to mate and she has secreted 'find me' pheromones and the males are trying to locate her.

But if it's both males and females or just females being more active than usual, it's not that :)

Lost one shrimp that I've noticed; the other seem to be doing well. I like this tank. The lack of fishies is starting to bum me out though. Waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the LFS to find me some S. respendens, rosy loaches, and a gourami (I would take a wild-colored thick lip, a barred, or a snakeskin; all three are common in Lake Inle though none of them are probably native). I have a ton of store credit so I could get them for free.

Waiting is the worst part. I bet it will be worth the wait when you do get them though!
After watching that Simpsons clip, I instantly remembered the King of the Hill intro.

Look what I found in the yard today! Minuscule land snails! I’ve only found these three times in my life, and I don’t think they get bigger than this. That’s my finger tip for size reference. They now live on the island.

I found more snails!!! Land snails in Wyoming. Who knew? These are even tinier than the first ones. Taken with a 100x microscope. The huge pink blob is the tip of my pinky.

In their new home. I think I’m going to be obsessed with tiny yard snails for a while. Already sent an email to the UW invert specialist asking for id.

A road trip to Myanmar? I have 2 nets so you'd have to invite me. I'm a resource.

It's way better than going to any beach.
You guys want to just meet there, or come to Wyoming and travel together?
